Our Growing SRC

Over the past few weeks, the SRC has illustrated a noticeable growth in both engagement and visibility across the school. More students are attending meetings where individuals are encouraged to ‘bring a friend’, contributing their ideas and demonstrating a stronger sense of ownership and pride in their role. This has increased participation, leading to more productive discussions and the generation of new ideas that reflect the broader student voice.

After collecting data from SRC members, it was highlighted that members needed further refinements of more precise goal-oriented meetings, clear plans for upcoming initiatives, including fundraising events and student wellbeing activities. As such, roles within SRC have been more clearly defined with students taking responsibility for implementing both long and short-term planning, future bake sales to raise internal school funding and the mechanics of organising future fundraising events for charity causes. This revised structure has allowed the group to operate more efficiently and with a stronger sense of purpose.

Students now have further clarity regarding how SRC supports student interests, which has assisted to build trust and enthusiasm for future projects. The SRC body has used this opportunity to reflect on their current practices and will continue to do so to improve their role within Cheltenham Secondary College.

SRC Leadership

For 58 years, The Exchange (Avenues) has been one of the biggest events in our school calendar. It’s more than just a competition—it’s tradition. Every year, our school goes head-to-head with Avenues College (SA), testing skills, teamwork, and determination. Months of training go into preparing for this exchange, with students pushing themselves to perform at their best. But Avenues isn’t just about winning—it’s about representing our school, celebrating the effort put in, and keeping the legacy alive. Each year, new faces join the squad, ready to take on the challenge, while past competitors pass down their knowledge and experience. The atmosphere is electric, filled with team spirit, excitement, and that little bit of nervous energy before stepping onto the field. In just a few short weeks, our squad will go head to head against the squad from Avenues College in Captain's games, academic games like chess and debate, and sports competitions, where each competitor on the squad will showcase their determination and hard work.

While Avenues showcases physical dedication, the Student Representative Council (SRC) is making waves in leadership. This year, the SRC has expanded, proving that student voices matter. More students are stepping up, getting involved, and making real changes within the school. From organising events to making sure student concerns are heard, the SRC has been stepping up in a big way. Whether it’s creating new initiatives or making sure the school community feels included, the growing presence of student leadership is shaping our school for the better. Together, Avenues and the SRC show the drive, passion, and teamwork that make our school community stronger. Whether it's competing, leading, or supporting others, students are proving that tradition and growth go hand in hand.

We encourage everyone to cheer on the competitors and get involved with school events because school spirit is something we build together.
