Year 2 News

We have made it! Another amazing term of learning, growth and fun in Grade 2!

We are so proud of all the students and everything they have achieved throughout Term 3. It has been a wonderful term filled with learning, challenges, laughter and lots of memorable moments!

As writers, we are so close to completing our published information reports! We have put so much effort into making our reports informative, detailed and professional. We have worked hard to research, write, edit and publish our learning, and we can’t wait to share our finished reports with you! We may even have our very own Grade 2 book catalogued in the school library for students to borrow! How exciting would that be? We are so proud of how far we have come as young writers!

As mathematicians, we have been exploring the exciting world of fractions! We investigated one whole, halves, quarters and eighths, learning how these fractions relate to one another and how splitting a whole into more equal parts makes each part smaller. We also explored how we can turn shapes and collections into fractions by identifying the equal parts and determining how many parts we have. Through hands-on activities, drawings and mathematical discussions, we have been developing our understanding of fractions and becoming confident fraction mathematicians.

As inquirers, we worked in small groups to brainstorm and design a new species of animal that could survive in a polluted water environment. We used our knowledge of animal adaptations to carefully select features that would help our creatures survive and then justified why each adaptation would be useful in their new environment. We enjoyed using our creativity and scientific knowledge to imagine how animals might adapt to survive in challenging environments.

Be Safe Online - Day and Night

We explored how to stay safe online, both day and night. We learnt about four important concepts: Be Safe, Be Curious, Be Kind and Be Secure, and discussed how we can use these ideas to make positive and responsible choices when we are online. We then worked with our Foundation student friends to complete a task where we shared our learning and explained how we can Be Safe, Be Curious, Be Kind and Be Secure online. We really enjoyed wearing our PJs while learning about how we can stay safe online!
