Year 1 News

We have had another amazing and creative week of learning in the Year 1 spaces!
As safe and responsible digital learners, we have been learning about how to stay safe online. We learnt to STOP and THINK before making choices online and discussed the importance of keeping our personal information private. We learnt that we should never share personal information online and that if we are ever unsure about something, we should stop and ask a trusted adult for help. We are learning to make safe and responsible choices when using technology.
As writers, we have been writing about the fascinating Tasmanian Devil! We have been applying our information text writing skills to create texts that inform the reader about a particular topic. Throughout our learning, we have been focusing on Australian animals and including important information such as their features, habitat, diet and other interesting facts. We have also been using our writing rubric to reflect on our work and identify the skills we can develop further. This has helped us to think about what we are already doing well and what we can include or improve to bump up our writing.
As collaborators, we have been engaging in the design process and this week we moved into the build and make phase. Using our plans, we worked together to create Australian habitats, including bushlands, rainforests, oceans and deserts. We used a range of materials and our creativity to bring our designs to life. As we built, we had to problem-solve, make changes and find solutions when things did not work as planned. We worked collaboratively by sharing ideas, listening to one another, taking turns and learning to compromise when our ideas were different. It has been wonderful to see everyone working together and supporting one another to create something they can be proud of!
As the end of term draws near, we would like to take a moment to thank all of our families for your ongoing support and encouragement in your child’s learning. We have loved seeing the growth, creativity and enthusiasm our learners have shown throughout the term. We look forward to another spectacular term as we continue learning, growing and wrapping up a wonderful year together!
Have a lovely week!
