Leadership, Resilience and Adventure: Future Makers 2026
Our Year 9 students recently completed the 12-day Future Makers program, an immersive experience designed to develop leadership, resilience, independence, and teamwork through outdoor adventure and student-led challenges. Future Makers is delivered in partnership with the Outdoor School, helping students develop leadership, resilience, and teamwork through real-world outdoor experiences.
The program began with students stepping away from technology and embracing a range of activities, including rock climbing, the flying fox, canoe skills, and even crafting their own paddles in preparation for their expedition. These experiences encouraged students to become initiators and leaders while building confidence and problem-solving skills.
A major highlight of the program was the five-day student-led canoe journey along the Murray River. Students navigated changing conditions, worked together to overcome challenges, and experienced the rewards of sustainable living in the outdoors. Along the way, they strengthened friendships, developed meaningful connections, and discovered the value of perseverance.
The journey was not without its challenges. From headwinds on the river and heavy packs to cold mornings watching the sunrise from their canoes, students consistently demonstrated grit and determination. They cooked their own meals, navigated their route, supported one another through difficult moments, and celebrated successes together.
From the excitement of sledding down the King River rapids to the quiet reflection of journaling around the campfire each evening, students fully immersed themselves in every aspect of the experience.
They returned as a more united, resilient, and capable group of young people, carrying with them lasting memories, valuable life skills, and a deeper understanding of their own potential. We are incredibly proud of the leadership, courage, and teamwork they displayed throughout this life-changing adventure.
