Year 11 & 12 Sub-School News

Year 11

It has been a busy term for Year 11 students who have finished their classes for the year and have shown grit and perseverance as they completed their final SACs and began preparing for their Unit 2 exams.

They have shown outstanding engagement throughout this week’s Unit 2 exams. The Unit 2 November Exam period is designed to replicate the conditions students will experience in their future Unit 3 & 4 studies. We have been impressed at how seriously students have taken this exam period, using it as a wonderful learning opportunity to consolidate their understanding and skills before moving into Year 12. We are so proud to see all the fantastic preparation work taking place in the Study Centre prior to the exams, too.

In Week 8, students underwent the VCE Headstart Program which consists of the first two lessons of their 2026 studies. This will be their final week of classes at MGC for 2025 and runs from Monday 24 November to Friday 28 November. All students received confirmation of their 2026 studies, along with subject codes and Headstart Timetable. We look forward to seeing the Class of 2026 assemble for the first time as Year 12 students. We wish them well as they begin to lean into their preparation for Year 12 classes in 2026.

What a term it has been in Year 12! It started with revision classes in preparation for the exams and we enjoyed celebrating with the Year 12s as they dressed up throughout the week and engaged in a range of activities including a picnic at Burnley Park, staff room rave, teacher vs student dodgeball, colour run and our final assembly. Time capsules were pulled out of storage, and it was lovely to see the students reminisce about their early years at MGC and see what they had written as Year 7s.

Valedictory evening was a wonderful celebration of every student as they collected their VCE folders and enjoyed an evening with families and teachers at the Pullman in Albert Park. The student performers – Audrey Ahmed and Meera Datt, Eva Goudie, Sophie Richmond and Tilly Skinner and Sandor Kazi and the Physics class – were brilliant and added to the evening. Mardi Gammon spoke on behalf of the Year 12s and our College Captains, Swathy Nair, Sunday Bickford and Daisy Daniels also spoke beautifully and assisted in running the evening.

The exams have just finished, and we have been farewelling the Year 12s as they head to their next adventure, whether it be work, University, TAFE or travel, we wish them all the very best and know they will have a bright future ahead of them.

Results will be out on 11 December from 7.00 am. If anyone requires assistance to change preferences or look at different courses or just needs to chat, the Careers team of Mella and Tara will be available as well as Leigh, Tonia and Claire.

The VTAC change of preference date is 13 December at 12 noon.

Have a wonderful Christmas and safe holiday period.
