Year 9 & 10 Sub-School News

Assistant Principal's Report
As Term 4 draws to a close there have been many opportunities to celebrate the successes and achievements of our students. The Presentation Evening, in particular, is a special event and a large number of students were recognised for their academic and extra-curricular achievements throughout the year.
We welcomed the new Year 8 to 12 students for 2026 to the school at the New Student Induction Day. These students are changing schools part way through their secondary school journey, and they attended this day with a mixture of apprehension and excitement. This day was an opportunity for them to meet all the other new students and explore the school before they join us in next year.
The time at the School for Student Leadership for our Year 9 students is drawing to a close and they have exciting plans for their Community Leadership Project that will be shared with the rest of the school next year when they return to MGC.
Our Year 10 students are currently undertaking Work Experience in a variety of workplace settings and are taking the opportunity to try out possible future career pathways. Our Year 10 students, and many of the Year 9 students, participated in the Headstart program last week where they were introduced to their VCE classes and teachers.
I wish all members of the MGC community a safe, enjoyable and restful summer break and look forward to working with you all in 2026.

Year 9
As we move toward the end of a productive and rewarding school year, we are delighted to share the many achievements, learning experiences, and important upcoming events for our Year 9 cohort. This term has seen impressive growth, maturity, and dedication from our students, and we are extremely proud of the way they have represented themselves and the school community.
Term 4 has seen our students participate in two fantastic Wellbeing programs - Elephant Ed & Red Frogs
Elephant Ed
Students undertook a workshop that explored respectful relationships, personal boundaries, online interactions, and safe decision-making. Students participated thoughtfully and with maturity, contributing to meaningful conversations. Facilitators were impressed by the cohort’s engagement and willingness to reflect on real-world issues.
Red Frogs Australia
The Red Frogs program focused on navigating peer pressure, staying safe at social events, and looking out for their friends as they become more independent. Once again, students demonstrated excellent behaviour during the sessions and took away practical tools they can apply both now and in the future.
Both programs play a valuable role in preparing our Year 9s for the increasing independence of senior schooling, and the cohort represented the school with pride.
Back in the classroom - across all subjects, students have now completed their final learning tasks for the semester. Teachers have been consistently impressed by the effort, curiosity, and perseverance shown throughout this term. Whether it was creative responses in English, problem-solving in Mathematics, scientific investigations, language learning, or hands-on curiosity in the Arts and Technologies, our Year 9 students worked diligently to finish the year strongly.
Their commitment to continuous improvement and their positive approach to learning have been commended across the learning faculties.
The Year in Review
Throughout the year, staff have consistently remarked on the outstanding behaviour and strong sense of community demonstrated by the Year 9 students. Their positive attitude, kindness, and willingness to support one another have helped create an encouraging learning environment for all.
As they prepare to transition into the senior years, we are confident they will continue to show the same level of maturity, effort, and school spirit.
Thank you to all families for your ongoing support throughout the year. We look forward to celebrating the final weeks of the school year with our wonderful Year 9 cohort.

Year 10
Wow, we are nearly at the end of the Year 10 academic year.
This term the Wellbeing program was enriched by having guest speakers come and present programs relating to respectful relationships, consent, organisation and study skills. Feedback from teachers and students was that the programs were well received and full of valuable information.
Last during our last Wellbeing class, we celebrated by heading to Burnley Park sharing 112 pizzas, stories and lots of laughter.
The following students were recognised for displaying attributes that highlighted MGC College values – Sasha Bellsmith, Sydnie Hosking and Isabella Lapsley.
The Year 10 cohort are to be congratulated on their conduct during the exam period. It is a credit to them, as to the mature way they approached the exams.
We are looking forward to hearing about the insights, skills and knowledge gained when students head out into the real world and participate in the work experience program.
As the 2025 Year 10s begin Headstart we want to thank them for an amazing year and wish them every success as they begin their VCE journey.
