Our Year 7 and 8 students have had a fantastic start to the term in Sport. Whether it’s on the netball court, athletics track, or participating in fitness and wellbeing activities, students have demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience and great teamwork.

This term, students have been building fundamental movement skills, learning the rules and strategies of a range of sports, and working together in supportive team environments. A highlight has been seeing students try new activities, challenge themselves and show respect and encouragement towards teammates and opponents alike.

We are proud of the positive sporting culture developing across both year levels and look forward to continued participation and growth throughout the year.

In addition to the recent Year 8 camp which was a huge success, Year 8 students recently visited the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) to deepen their understanding of visual art and spark creative inspiration. Students explored a range of exhibitions, including contemporary pieces, classic works and interactive installations that encouraged them to think critically about how art communicates ideas.

This term, a group of passionate Year 7 and 8 students represented MGC in the First Lego League competition, a global program promoting problem-solving, creativity and teamwork through robotics and engineering.

Students worked in teams to design, build and program a Lego-based robot capable of completing a series of technical challenges. Beyond robotics, the competition required research, project planning, communication and perseverance, showcasing the very best of STEAM learning.

Our teams demonstrated outstanding collaboration and resilience, particularly during the testing phases when things didn’t go as planned. Their ability to troubleshoot, redesign and improve their robots was a highlight of the event.

We’re incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to expanding STEAM opportunities even further in the future.

As we approach the end of another busy and rewarding school year, we would like to extend a big thank you to our Year 7 students for their patience and cooperation throughout the Year 12 exam period. Your respect for quiet spaces, altered classrooms and lockers and shared facilities has helped ensure a smooth and supportive environment for our senior students during this important time.

With the year drawing to a close, students will soon be asked to empty their lockers in preparation for the holiday break and the transition into their new core classes for Year 8. Further details about locker clean-out times will be provided shortly.

Looking ahead, on December 1 students will participate in an engaging incursion featuring a live performance focused on cyberbullying, mental health and wellbeing. The presentation will explore real-world scenarios and deliver practical strategies for resilience, help-seeking, and building positive relationships; all essential skills for navigating the online and offline challenges young people face today.

We look forward to this meaningful experience and to celebrating the final weeks of the school year together.

Year 8

In Week 6, our Year 8 students headed off to Lake Dewar. From the moment we arrived, students threw themselves into every activity with lots of enthusiasm and plenty of resilience - rain, shine, mud and all!

Across the camp students enjoyed stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, gorge walking, the flying fox, kick bikes, tunnelling, raft building and geocaching. Whether they were balancing on a board, zooming down a wire or navigating their way around the bush, the Year 8s gave it everything.

The fun didn’t stop when the sun went down either. Our movie night and games night brought out some friendly competition, lots of laughs, and some unexpected talents. It was fantastic to see students making new connections and supporting each other.

Well done to everyone for getting involved and making it such a memorable week!
