« C’est du gâteau! » It’s A Piece of Cake!

Our French students recently got to enjoy some traditional French cakes and quiches! Speaking French to ask for their chosen cake was the easy part of this experience, as choosing which one they wanted from the vast selection was no piece of cake!

Heidi Junge: une lauréate exceptionnelle

The 2025 Berthe Mouchette Competition Awards night was a dazzling celebration of talent held at the elegant Capitol Theatre, where the 2025 laureates gathered for a night of sophistication, culture, and impressive linguistic skill.

Among them, Melbourne Girls’ College’s own Heidi Junge shone brilliantly, as she won the award for the Best Year 12 student (a combination of both written and oral skills) and also placing third best overall for her written paper, making our school immensely proud.

Heidi displayed a calm confidence, and a genuine passion for the French language during her acceptance speech and she captivated the audience, showcasing not only her personal dedication to her French studies but also her humility and kindness to the other participants. The awards ceremony itself was a sumptuous and chic affair, filled with excitement and admiration for the talented students who took the stage, yet it was Heidi who closed the evening on the most memorable note.

Taking the final spotlight, she delivered an inspiring, humble, and heartfelt speech, thanking her teachers, peers, and family while reflecting on the beauty of the French language and the supportive community around it. Her words resonated warmly throughout the theatre, perfectly capturing why she is such a deserving and admired winner. Heidi’s victory stands as a remarkable achievement, one that celebrates her hard work and highlights the pride, excellence, and spirit of the French department here at MGC.
