MGC Rowing Season Launch

Our MGC Rowing Parents Association kicked off the rowing season with a launch event and squad family welcome on Saturday 13 September at 9am at MGC. This initiative was inspired by many parents eager to see the rowing facilities where their children dedicate so much time to training. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to appreciate just how fortunate our rowers are to have such fantastic facilities right next to their school.

The gathering featured a lovely morning tea, complete with hot beverages, juice, and a beautiful assortment of pastries and baked goods from Three Birds Bakery in Kew. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy the company of fellow rowing families.

As the sun shone down, over 200 friends and families explored the boat sheds, pontoon, and weights room, even trying their hand at the erg machines. This event not only allowed squad families to familiarize themselves with the facilities but also provided a chance to connect with one another and the opportunity to chat with our rowing director, Graham Smith.

The committee also hosted a special raffle featuring a signed Matilda’s Jersey kindly donated by Nike Australia in support of our rowing program. Proceeds from this raffle will contribute to the acquisition of a new 8 boat for our senior rowers. We’d like to congratulate C. Morgan, the lucky winner of this exceptional prize, and express our gratitude to the entire MGC community for their support of our raffle. Thank you.

MGC Ergathon Fundraiser 2025

Our MGC Ergathon took place on Friday October 31, at the Gillard Centre from 4pm until 9am Saturday 1 November.

Our committed rowers kept a steady rotation of 10 ergometers throughout the night, taking turns to row, rest, and sleep, while also engaging in various activities and entertainment to stay energized!

The event reached its peak at 9 am, drawing a crowd of parents and family members who came out to cheer on our seniors as they tackled this demanding challenge. A heartfelt thank you goes to all the parent volunteers who dedicated their time, whether by preparing dinner for our hungry athletes or organizing a nutritious breakfast to energize them after a long night. Your support is what makes this event enjoyable and successful for the rowers. A special thank you to the McIntosh family for their generous donation of fresh produce from Freshmax, which kept our rowers well-nourished during the event.

The community support for this incredible program means a lot, and every contribution counts. By donating, you play a vital role in fostering the program’s growth and ensuring its success in the future.

A huge thank you to all the rowing families and MGC community who have supported all our events so far this season! We’re thrilled to start this season with such a vibrant sense of community and togetherness and look forward to many more events and regattas over the next few months!
