Dear Fellow Scientists,

Prep students are learning to make predictions by guessing whether objects will sink or float. They are participating in a hands-on experiment, following safety rules by staying calm and sensible, and drawing their results. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJMecy6rKIo&list=RDgJMecy6rKIo&start_radio=1

Grade 1 students have been developing their science inquiry skills by investigating three different dripping taps. They made predictions, observed what happened, and recorded their results. Students also explored ways to save water and discussed why it is important to use water wisely. To put their learning into practice, they independently completed a worksheet identifying actions that save water and actions that waste water. Read this book at home called Save Water Every Day: https://www.getepic.com/app/read/27843

Grade 2 students are exploring the external features of plants that help them survive. They are identifying and describing different plant parts, including leaves, stems, roots and flowers, and learning about the important jobs each part does. Students are also comparing plants and discovering how their features can differ, such as the size and shape of their leaves, the thickness of their stems and the types of flowers they grow. In Grade 3, we are exploring different types of rocks and their properties, including colour, texture, shape and hardness. Students will discover how these properties make rocks useful for building, roads and gardens. Watch this video on What's the Dirt on ... Dirt? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if29mjcd5bc

Grade 4 students are exploring gravity and how it affects objects on different planets. Students will create an animation to demonstrate gravitational force. Watch this video on gravity: https://www.clickview.net/primary/videos/80352298/what-is-gravity?context=series&contextId=80448180

Grade 5 students are exploring how light reflects off mirrors. Working in groups, students are drawing diagrams to show how light travels towards a mirror and reflects off its surface. They are developing their understanding of how reflection allows us to see objects around us. Grade 6 students are investigating what yeast needs to grow. Students will develop their science inquiry skills by planning and safely conducting an experiment, making predictions and recording results.
