Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families,
We are now in Week 4 of our Dance unit, and students across the school have been exploring how dance can communicate ideas, tell stories and connect people to different cultures and communities.
Our Prep students have been learning how dance can tell stories and express emotions. Students have explored moving their bodies to a range of different music, and the ways different movement actions fir the sounds and feelings in different music. Students have been experimenting with different ways to move and learning how dance can communicate ideas without using words.
Students in Grades 1 and 2 have been exploring Bhangra, a lively dance style originating from Punjab in South Asia, and the Australian bush dance tradition. They have been learning and practising dance actions, developing their coordination, timing and ability to move together. An important focus has been understanding the value of copying and practising dance movements, helping students learn new skills, follow sequences and participate confidently in group dances.
Grades 3 and 4 have been exploring cultural dances from the Torres Strait Islands and the Pacific Islands. Students are learning how dance can express cultural identity, traditions and community connections, while developing their understanding of the elements of dance, including body, energy, space, time and relationships. Through practical movement activities, students are discovering how different movement choices help communicate meaning and create distinctive dance styles.
Our Grades 5 and 6 students have been learning Bhangra, exploring its energetic movements, rhythms and cultural significance. They have also begun an introduction to choreography, learning how dancers can create and organise their own movement sequences. Students are experimenting with selecting, combining and ordering actions to develop short dance sequences, building the skills they will need to create, rehearse and share their own choreography.
It has been wonderful to see students engaging with new dance styles, developing their movement skills and discovering how dance brings people and communities together.
See you in the Performing Arts room!
