Visual Arts News

We’re already at Week 4! It has been a busy start to our final term, with students getting stuck into their learning and enjoying lots of opportunities to create, explore and share their ideas. It’s hard to believe we’re heading into the final part of the school year!
Here is what our Tarneit Risers have been learning about so far in Visual Arts?
PREP
Our Prep artists have been busy creating! Students have been practising their drawing, colouring, cutting and gluing skills while creating their own dinosaurs. They have also explored shape, colour and layering to create bright, colourful Kandinsky-inspired trees using circles.
GRADE 1
Grade 1 students have been learning about the collage-making process through a fun ice cream artwork. They selected colours, cut and arranged shapes to build their ice cream designs, before adding patterns and different types of lines to create detail, texture and interest.
GRADE 2
Grade 2 students stepped into the world of storytelling through art, using a favourite book as inspiration for their own creations. They experimented with colour and collage to design colourful umbrellas and represent the people who are special to them. Students then reflected on the connection between their artwork and the story.
GRADE 3
Grade 3 students have been discovering the art of weaving and how it is used in different cultures around the world. Using paper strips, they practised the over-and-under weaving technique to create colourful animal artworks, adding details and patterns to bring their designs to life.
GRADE 4
Grade 4 students have been exploring how art can communicate ideas and feelings. They created colourful 3D hot air balloons as part of a collaborative artwork, experimenting with shape, line, pattern and form. Students also considered how colour, symbols and imagery can be used to represent different emotions.
GRADE 5
Grade 5 students have been exploring mandalas, looking at how repeated shapes, patterns and symmetry can create balanced designs. They developed their own mandala patterns and experimented with colour schemes, including complementary and analogous colours, to enhance their finished artworks.
GRADE 6
Grade 6 students have been exploring artistic style and inspiration through self-portraiture. Inspired by Tim Burton, they experimented with exaggerated facial features and chalk pastels to create expressive portraits. Students refined their techniques, considered value and contrast, and reflected on their finished artworks.
