Building updates

Over the next few weeks, the old Cottage/Music room and approximately one-third of the old Administration Building site will be prepared with new topsoil and hydroseeded grass. We are hoping these areas will be ready for students to use early in Term 4, once the new grass has had enough time to establish. We’re really excited about this development, as it will provide our students with more open space to play and enjoy!

2027 Class Planning & Foundation Enrolments

We are beginning to plan our classes for 2027. If your family is intending to leave HEPS at the end of 2026, please let us know as soon as possible. This information will assist us with our planning and class organisation for next year.

If your child has been offered a place in Foundation at HEPS for 2027, please accept your offer as soon as possible. This will help us finalise our enrolment numbers as we begin planning our Foundation classes for next year.

2026 Parent/Carer Opinion Survey — We Want Your Feedback!

Our school is running the annual Parent/Carer Opinion Survey, and we'd love to hear from you. It only takes about 20 minutes and helps us understand how families feel about school climate, student behaviour, and engagement — feedback that directly shapes our school planning and improvement.

Only one parent/carer per household needs to complete it (if your child's family has two households, contact the school so both can take part). Responses are completely anonymous and confidential.

Annual General Meeting

Annual General Meeting

Each year, the School Council holds a public reporting meeting, also known as an Annual General Meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to report to the school community on:

• the proceedings of the School Council since the previous public meeting; and
• the presentation of the endorsed 2025 Annual Report.

In 2026, our Annual General Meeting will be held in the school staffroom on Wednesday 26 August, commencing at 6:30 pm.

The presentation will be brief and is expected to take approximately 10–15 minutes. We extend an invitation to members of our school community who would like to attend.

The Annual Report will be published on our school website following the meeting.

Important Attendance Reminder

A reminder to families that adding an attendance note on Compass does not sign your child in to school. If your child arrives late to school, they must be signed in at the office by an parent/carer. Similarly, if you need to collect your child during the school day, please ensure they are signed out through the office.

NAPLAN- Results

We are proud to share our 2026 NAPLAN results, which show HEPS students performing strongly across all areas. Our students achieved results well above both the state and network averages in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Numeracy, and Grammar & Punctuation across both Year 3 and Year 5. We are particularly proud of our Level 3 results this year, with students achieving exceptionally strong outcomes across all areas. Our strong NAPLAN results over many years reflect the consistent and high-quality teaching and learning taking place across our school. 

The results below show the percentage of students who achieved a score in the ‘Strong’ or ‘Excelling’ categories. This measure is used by the Department of Education to monitor student achievement and progress over time.

Athletics Day – Levels 3–6 Students

Yesterday, our Level 3–6 students headed off to the A.C. Robertson Athletics Track in Ringwood for an exciting day of competition. Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of track and field events, including high jump, long jump, triple jump, 100m sprint, 800m, shot put and discus, just to name a few. We managed to get through most of the events before the rain set in, although unfortunately, we were unable to complete them all. A big thank you to Michael Hodgson for his fantastic organisation in making the event happen, and to all our staff for supporting our students throughout the day.

Science Week – ‘Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All’

Science Week has been in full swing this week! Running from 15–23 August, this year’s theme is ‘Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All’.

Miss How and Mrs Dennis have organised a range of fun, hands-on activities for students, including our Big Bug Competition, where students can create their own insect model and information tag. Students have also had the opportunity to use the Maker Space during lunchtime to work on their creations.

Students have also been busy in the Sustainability Room making seed bombs and using microscopes to explore bugs, flowers and seeds, with support from our Sustainability Leaders.

A big thank you to Miss How, Mrs Dennis and our STEAM and Sustainability Leaders for making Science Week such a fun and engaging experience for everyone!

Book Week Celebrations – This Wednesday 26th August

We’re looking forward to celebrating Book Week this Wednesday 26th August, with the theme “Symphony of Stories”. On this day, the students are invited to dress as their favourite book character for our much-loved Book Parade. Parents and families are welcome to join us and cheer on the colourful costumes. We’re also excited to welcome children’s author Andrea Rowe for the day. Andrea will run engaging workshops with all year levels, inspiring students with her stories and sharing insights into the writing process. Our Literacy team has planned a fun-filled program to ignite a love of reading and storytelling across the school.

Term 3 Three-Way Conferences 

Bookings for our Term 3 Three-Way Conferences open tomorrow at 9.30 AM (Friday 21st August) 

Conferences will take place in Week 9 (the second last week of Term) on the following dates:

• Monday 7th September – 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
• Thursday 10th September – 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Specialist Teacher Appointments

Families are also welcome to book with specialist teachers on:

• Thursday 10th September | 3:50 PM – 7:00 PM
• Mrs Mountford (Art Teacher) will be available on Monday 7th September between 3.45-5.00 PM 
• As places are limited, we kindly ask that you only book with a specialist if there is a specific need to discuss your child’s progress. 

Please note: Three-Way Conferences offer a valuable opportunity for teachers to provide feedback on your child’s current achievement and learning approach. When making bookings, please allow enough time between appointments to avoid overlaps.

Father's Day Breakfast and Open Morning- Wednesday 2nd September

Calling all HEPS dads — We want to celebrate you! Join us on Wednesday 2nd September for a special Father's Day morning.

• 8:30–9:00am — Father's Day Breakfast, kindly provided by TeamKids
• Location: Out the front of the new administration building
• 9:00–10:00am — Father's Day Open Classroom, with dads welcome to visit classrooms

A big thank you to TeamKids for providing the breakfast. We look forward to seeing you there!

Wellbeing Information Session- Wednesday 2nd September at 5:30 PM

At Heathmont East Primary School, we are proud to run a comprehensive Wellbeing program that supports the social, emotional, and personal growth of every student. This includes our Friendology program, School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS), and Cyber Safety education, alongside a range of bespoke strategies that our teachers and education support staff implement every day in the classroom.

We would like to invite all parents and carers to a Wellbeing Information Session on Wednesday 2nd September at 5:30 PM, where we will be joined by our School Counsellor, Tal, to share how we support the wellbeing of every student at HEPS.

This will be a great opportunity to learn more about our approach and to ask any questions you may have about how we can continue to support the wellbeing of all our students, both at school and at home.

Working Bee- Save the date- Sunday, 13th September 

Our Term 3 Working Bee for 2026, is happening on Sunday, 13th September 

Over the past few years, we’ve been thrilled to see such fantastic turnouts at our Working Bees. There is always plenty to do, so feel free to come along for an hour or stay for the whole morning, any help is appreciated.

We will also have a BBQ and ice cream for both adults and children to enjoy.
