Level 6

Dear Level 6 Families and the rest of the school,

This week, Level 6 students have finished drafting, revising, and publishing narratives. They have produced and published the most expressive work, and the Level 6 teachers are very proud of their growth and creativity. Every student demonstrated remarkable growth in producing a final draft of their narrative with clear, legible handwriting. Through sustained writing, all students produced final copies and made intentional revisions for clarity and legibility. Teachers circulated to give feedback on handwriting and organisation, and many students made noticeable improvements. Each student was able to write their narrative in legible handwriting, organise their work for clarity, and present a polished final draft ready to  share.

Students independently selected and planned their own narratives, exploring genres from fantasy to social conflict. They were able to clearly define the central conflict and craft strong resolutions that respected their story's voice and intent. We were particularly impressed by the variety of ideas and the thoughtful ways all students resolved challenges for their characters.

The students successfully created illustrations that represent the key scenes of their narrative, including the orientation, conflict, and resolution. We modelled how to identify story parts using a sample narrative, and students drew simple labelled illustrations while discussing how images support the written story. Every student identified the orientation, conflict, and resolution in their narrative, created illustrations that showed each of these three scenes which gave extra emphasis to their stories (a picture says a thousand words). The thoughtful pictures students produced truly matched their writing and brought their stories to life.

Our students engaged in publishing their narratives using digital presentation tools. Students organised their text and artwork into digital slides or pages, learning formatting and design choices that enhance storytelling. Every student was able to format their narrative text in a presentation tool, incorporate illustrations and visual elements, and present their narrative digitally. Several students have already completed digital drafts ready to share.
