Level 4

Swimming

Last week, Level 4 enjoyed a week full of swimming! Each morning we boarded the bus at 9:25, ready to start our daily lesson at 10am, lasting for forty minutes. Everyone put in 100% effort to learn new skills and consolidate old ones as well as have some splashy fun along the way. We were proud of the students and the level of organisation and independence they showed, packing their bags, managing their belongings and helping their friends to do the same. Friday's session was a highlight, learning life saving skills such as using life jackets in deep water and saving someone using a pool noodle. 

Literacy

Last week we wrapped up our Narrative Writing unit, publishing our star pieces from the first half of the term and we are officially halfway through our Book Club books! 

This week in Reading and Writing, we are focusing on the nonfiction genre of explanation pieces. Explanation writing is where we ask the question how or why something works, then explain to our readers the answer. It means we can be curious about the world around us, finally having the chance to research those questions that might pop into our heads at all funny hours of the day and night!

During Reading lessons, we have analysed nonfiction texts, seeing what the authors do to keep us engaged in the book, so that we can then use those devices in our own explanation writing pieces.  

Maths

This week in Maths, we have moved onto looking at Statistics and Graphing. We are learning about the features of a graph, the numerical scale that would be appropriate for each graph as well as the patterns we see. Is there a relationship between the variables? Why is there a sudden spike in that spot? Is there a better graph to use to show this data? 

Inquiry

Our Geography unit has continued this fortnight, and we have been studying the different climate zones in the world such as the polar regions, the temperate zone and the tropical zone. We are looking at the vegetation that grows in each region and what that means for life in that zone.
