Victorian Young Leaders to China 2025
On Monday, August 18 we had five students begin a two-week project with the Victorian Young Leaders to China program. It is an intensive language program open to students in Year 9 and 10 studying Chinese. The program is hosted by Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) and Meg Languages and is delivered online. It uses technology to provide opportunities for students to enhance and apply their Chinese language and culture skills with peers and teachers in China.
So far students have participated in language classes, virtual excursions based in China, making dumplings out of playdough and a specialised ink drawing and calligraphy class.
The program aims to extend students Chinese language acquisition and foster connections through interactive cultural exchanges, and an optional immersion to the Museum of Chinese Australian History and Chinatown which includes an Amazing Race style student experience.
Celebrating Chinese Culture
Our Chinese international students recently volunteered their time and talents to support the Chinese Department in promoting Chinese culture and inspire more students to learn the language. Their wonderful performances brought vibrancy and excitement to the event.
Cassie showcased a graceful traditional Chinese dance Porcelain Love, while Joyce, Evangeline, and Galatea formed a band featuring the Chinese zither, performing the elegant piece Puppet Show. Tracy and Joyce collaborated on a beautiful Mongolian Danceaccompanied by the Chinese traditional music instrument, Zhongruan, and Liz, Du, and Estrelya delighted the audience with a lively pop song medley.
It was also fantastic to see so many other ISP students joining in the celebrations, cheering for the performers and taking part in the dragon dance and Chinese calligraphy activities.
The event was a joyful showcase of culture and community spirit, and we couldn’t be prouder of our students for sharing their talents and passion.
