Term 3 has been an especially productive and busy time at Melbourne Girls’ College, marked by important moments of academic planning and inspiring student led achievements. Over the past few weeks, students across the college have been engaged in course counselling and the subject selection process for 2026. This includes our Year 7 students making their first language choices, right through to our Year 11 students finalising VCE pathways. These conversations and decisions are an integral part of ensuring each student has access to subjects and programs that reflect their interests, aspirations and pathways.
For our Year 12 students, the final weeks of their schooling journey at MGC are well underway. Students are completing their final SACs and dedicating significant time to preparing for the upcoming VCAA examinations. We are incredibly proud of their focus and persistence they continue to demonstrate and know that the support of staff, peers and families will be critical during this important period.
We were delighted by the success of Life as a Cabaret, a student-led performance held last Friday which celebrated all things theatre. The cast and production team not only showcased exceptional talent but also demonstrated the strength of collaboration and leadership among our students.
The annual Victorian State Schools Spectacular is an invaluable performing arts opportunity for Victoria’s government primary and secondary school students. The program showcases and unites government school communities through working towards a common goal of more students reaching the highest level of achievement in the arts, ensuring kids are happy, healthy and resilient, and building pride in our schools. The Spectacular has become a rite of passage for Victoria’s top young talent, and a cherished, memorable education experience for all participants. We have a number of students who are performing in this year’s spectacular. This has been iconic event on the calendar for 30 years, the Spectacular is a breathtaking and heart-warming blend of song, dance, and circus, all staged with spectacular lights, costumes and a 75-piece orchestra. From pop anthems to powerful ballads, gravity-defying aerial acrobatics to heart-pounding routines.

I am pleased to announce that three outstanding members of our staff at MGC have been recognised for their exceptional dedication and service. They have been nominated and awarded Rotary Excellence Awards. This honour reflects their commitment to our students, staff and the broader MGC community. They are:
Outstanding Teaching Excellence Award – Carolina Trujillo
Outstanding STEAM Award – Andrew Vance
Outstanding Education Support Staff Award – Nancy Sandilands
We have a special Rotary Presentation Evening coming up where they will be acknowledged and recognised.
We are this year again conducting the annual Parent Opinion Survey which is administered by the Department of Education. The survey is designed to assist us in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of our school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is voluntary, but always encourage and appreciate your participation and feedback. We look closely at the results every year to assist us in identifying areas of celebration and goals for ongoing improvement. The survey is conducted online, takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and is available on most devices.
Term 3 continues to highlight the strength and vibrancy of our learning community, and I sincerely thank students, staff and families for their collective efforts and ongoing support.
