Year 11 & 12 Sub School News

Assistant Principal's Report
A busy start to a short Term 3 has seen our Senior School students engaging in a wide range of exciting opportunities. Course counselling has been a major focus, and it has been such a pleasure meeting with our students as they prepare for their pathways into Year 11 and 12. These conversations have not only allowed us to support them in making subject selections that complement one another, but also to learn more about their passions, hobbies, and aspirations beyond school. The partnership we continue to build with families through this process is especially special to the members of the MGC staff. Supporting students through this process is always a highlight, helping them explore different subject combinations, understand what each study involves, and link these choices to their future ambitions, We are certainly excited to be there to support these students over their VCE years and I thank the staff and families involved in this process.
For our Year 12 students, this is a particularly significant time as most are completing their final SACs over the coming weeks. This marks an important milestone as they begin to shift their focus towards preparing for their end-of-year examinations. The dedication and resilience they are showing during this period is commendable, and our staff remain committed to supporting them every step of the way.
Another key milestone this term was our VTAC Information Session, which equipped our Year 12 students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the VTAC portal, consider university and TAFE preferences, and approach their applications with confidence. We were also fortunate to welcome alumni back to share their experiences and insights. A huge thank you goes to our Careers team for their outstanding organisation of this event, and to our Year 12 team for their ongoing guidance and support.
It has also been a vibrant few weeks across the school with the incredible Life is a Cabaret show, Science Week, Book Week, and Law and Politics Week. It has been wonderful to see so many students actively engaging in lunchtime activities and joining in learning opportunities across year levels. I am in awe of the talent that we saw on Friday night and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the students thrive in their areas of interest surrounded by new and old friends. Our Book Week assembly was a particular highlight, and I want to acknowledge the creativity, energy, and leadership of our School Captains who worked so hard to develop and organise such a fantastic event. The colourful parade of book characters was a joy to see, and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with students about their imaginative outfits.
Breakfast Club continues to go from strength to strength each Wednesday in the Gillard Centre. It is wonderful to see so many students gathering together, sharing food, music, and conversation in such a positive and welcoming space.
As the Assistant Principal overseeing Student Engagement and Wellbeing, I would also like to take this opportunity to remind families of our SchoolTV platform:
This valuable resource provides a wide range of information and guidance to support parents and carers with the many challenges that can arise during the secondary school years. I encourage you to explore the site and make use of the expert advice and practical strategies available.
Thank you to all staff, students, and families for your ongoing support. I look forward to the rest of Term 3 as we continue to build momentum and celebrate the achievements of our senior students.

Year 11
Term 3 has been an eventful and exciting one for our Year 11 students!
Students have participated in a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities, including Course Counselling Day, the Performing Arts Life as Cabaret performance, and a variety of fun and engaging excursions and sports days.
In sport, Year 11 students represented the school proudly in Senior Badminton, Table Tennis, and AFL. A special congratulations goes to the Senior Badminton team, who achieved an impressive second place at state level!
On 20 August, a group of Year 11 Economics students attended Monash University. The excursion provided a wonderful opportunity to dive into the world of Behavioural Economics hosted by Monash University’s Business School. Students participated in hands-on activities and engaged in an Economics panel discussion with academics, research students and recent university graduates.
Looking ahead, there are many more opportunities for students to engage and challenge themselves. The upcoming Parent–Student–Teacher Conferences on 16 September will provide families with a valuable opportunity to connect with teachers, review learning progress, and support students in reflecting on their achievements. These conferences also encourage students to set meaningful intentions for the remainder of the year.
Earlier in the term, on Monday 28 July, Year 11 students took part in the Course Counselling Day. This important step helps guide students in shaping their future pathways. Choosing subjects at this stage requires careful consideration of various factors, including future career aspirations, personal strengths and interests, tertiary study prerequisites, and maintaining flexibility for future pathways.
It has been wonderful to see Year 11 students engage so thoughtfully and enthusiastically across all areas of school life this term. We look forward to celebrating more of their successes in Term 4!

Year 12
The past month has been filled with energy, celebration and inspiration for our Year 12 students.
We were delighted to welcome back our alumni for a special speaking event. Former students generously shared their journeys through university and beyond, offering insights into diverse fields such as science, law and the arts. Our students enjoyed the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions and gain first-hand perspectives on life after school. It was truly inspiring to see our graduates giving back to our community and encouraging the next generation to dream big.
Adding a touch of fun and creativity, our students also embraced the joy of Book Week, dressing up in imaginative costumes to celebrate both their love of reading and their final year of school. The event was a wonderful reminder of the importance of balancing study with celebration, and the colourful parade during the Whole School Assembly brought plenty of smiles and cheers. Congratulations to the ‘Where’s the Green Sheep’ group costume for coming second!
A particular highlight has been the student-led production Life is a Cabaret. Produced, directed, choreographed and performed by our talented students, including a significant number of Year 12 students. The show was a spectacular celebration of creativity, collaboration and leadership. The audience was captivated by the professionalism and passion on display, and the production stands as a shining example of what our students can achieve when they bring their skills and energy together.
On the sporting front, we congratulate our Senior School football team who achieved an outstanding second place at Regionals and the Senior Badminton Team who were third in the state finals. Their teamwork, determination and spirit were evident in every game, and we are so proud of their efforts.
We are right in the middle of Unit 4 classes and students are excitedly placing their applications into VTAC for their University/TAFE preferences. We encourage them to continue looking after themselves, balancing study with rest, good nutrition and time to recharge. We are confident that their dedication, alongside the support of their teachers and families, will see them through this important stage with strength and resilience. Students should keep an eye out for the September holiday revision timetable and don’t forget to purchase your Valedictory dinner tickets!!
