Sport Report

It has been an exciting few weeks of sport at Melbourne Girls’ College, with our students representing the school across AFL, Netball, Cross Country, Badminton, and Table Tennis. From strong team efforts to outstanding individual achievements, each result is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and school spirit shown by our athletes. Congratulations to everyone who competed - you have done MGC proud!

AFL

  • Junior Team:  Fantastic effort by our junior team, making it all the way through to the State Quarter Final in Ballarat.

  • Intermediate Team: Made it through to regionals but unfortunately did not progress through to the next round.

  • Senior Team: Our Senior team showed great strength throughout each round and made it through to the Regional Final.

Netball

  • Intermediate Team: Represented MGC proudly at the regional level. While they did not progress to States, the team had a fantastic day competing and supporting each other.

We look forward to our Year 7 and Year 8 Netballers competing at regionals later in Term 3.

 Individual Sporting Achievements

Jasmine Morris (Year 8)

Jasmine has had an exceptional year in Touch Rugby. After only one year in the sport, she has already achieved the outstanding feat of being selected for three state teams. Most notably, Jasmine has been named in the Storm Under 14 Girls Victorian Touch Team to compete at the National Youth Championships. In addition, she has secured a place in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Touch Rugby Team. Well done Jasmine!

Taya Argus (Year 10)

Congratulations to Taya, who recently competed at the Gymnastics Nationals and placed 2nd – an incredible achievement on the national stage.

Olive Allen (Year 7)

Olive has been selected to represent Victoria at the Under 12 Hockey Nationals, where she will also serve as co-captain of the state team. This is an incredible honour and demonstrates Olive’s leadership as well as her sporting ability. We wish her all the best for her upcoming competition.

Millie Silver & Genta Jakupi (Year 7)

Both Millie and Genta were selected to represent Vic Metro at the Country Metro Challenge in Bendigo during the school holidays. This competition brought together the top 60 Under 14 girls in Victoria for two days of elite competition. Having two MGC students chosen is an excellent achievement and highlights the depth of talent within our school community.

Congratulations to Jasmine, Taya, Olive, Millie and Genta for their dedication and success in their individual sporting achievements this Term.

A huge congratulations once again to all MGC students who competed so far this Term. You have represented our college with pride, and we look forward to celebrating even more achievements throughout the rest of the year.
