Year 7 and 8 footballers
Last Friday the year 7/8 girls went to regionals footy. The tournament took place at the nearby McDonell park, with the girls playing 3 games across the day. The first game was against St Helena. It was a tough match and the girls lost but put up a good fight. The team finished the day with two strong wins against Sacred Heart and Whittlesea, which was unfortunately not enough to send us through to the final. Some highlights were Stella, Lexi and Tilly’s work in the midfield, Heidi S and Lily’s forward craft and Heidi B, Ella and Alice’s rucking. Overall it was a great day and everyone played really well.

The boys’ year 8 footy team had an exciting day out during their Regional round. They played 3 games for the day.
Our first game was a tight tussle between Greensborough who were a strong side but the boys prevailed in a close finish. In our next game against Wallan the boys showed more class and dominated, led by our midfield.
Finally in our last match it was sink or swim against Hazel Glen, who looked like the superior team all day… until they played us. Through class in the backline, midfield and our forwards we played a faultless game, kicking goals through all aspects of play. The team had a clean sweep and progressed to the regional grand final. The boys showed great Northcote spirit, and all had a fantastic day out.
This week the boys went on to play the Regional grand final. The game format had 4 x 12 minute quarters and we had only 1 player on the bench to rotate through. Unfortunately our opponents Diamond Valley, coached by AFL legend Boomer Harvey, with 400 AFL games of experience under his belt, were too strong for us on the day. The boys showed great grit and spirit, however came up short against a strong side. Next season we are all sure that this group of players will push again for hopefully another shot at a regional grand final flag.

Thanks to Louis Spencer's dad for the great shots of the team in action.
The boys Intermediate footy team had an opportunity to back up their amazing performance in the first round in Term 2. However the standard of the Regional opposition teams was much higher, and as a result we were not able to get a win for the day. Despite the disappointing loss, the team fought until the very end of the last game. With the crowd cheering on every mark, kick and goal, the boys never dropped their heads and should be very proud of their efforts. Special shoutout to Tom Farrell for stepping up as team captain and kicking some crucial goals for the team. Well done team!

Last Friday Northcote brought out their year 11/12 girls netball team to play at Macleod Netball stadium. The day began frosty after losing the first game, however the girls made a comeback winning 2 out of 3 games played overall.
The girls were supportive of one another and resilient across the day as Sabatinie coached them throughout. Thank you for everyone who helped out and everyone who showed up !

In a fast a furious Staff vs Senior Students Netball match the scores were neck and neck throughout the game. With some erratic passages of play from both teams, the staff team ended up somehow sneaking the victory in the dying seconds. A big thanks to our Sports Captain Acacia for organising and getting the teams together and to our Year 11 Students Jade and Bella for umpiring the match.
The senior mixed hockey team played a couple hard fought matches in beautiful sunny Greensborough. Big shout out to Lucy and Lily for representing Northcote playing in their last ever performance in their schooling years. Our first game was against Hume and second was against Richmond. Just after the half time break in the first game, leading goal scorer Rocco scored a diving goal, putting his body on the line to put us back in the game. AJ had some absolutely fantastic saves and Archie was the best full back on the field. James Hamilton said he had the time of his life and provided the most immaculate hype up speeches of all time. Jayden and Orlando provided some needed experience to the team. The two Noah’s had fun and Josef was present. Massive shout out to the best teacher Mr Bartholomew for being our chauffeur and coach. Final scores were 11-1 (vs Richmond) and 3-0 (vs Hume)

On Monday our senior girls soccer team played at the regionals soccer tournament at DISC. The team went undefeated the entire day, conceding no goals. The team won 2-0 against Macleod, 4-0 against Sacred Heart Kyneton and 8-0 against Epping, resulting in them finishing top of their pool and advancing to the final. The girls played a good match against Princes Hill in the grand final, and came out as regional champions, winning 3-0. Lyla Ross score many of the teams goals across the tournament and Emily Togneri and Indigo Rodger were very good in the midfield, setting up many chances. Minke Cook was a star goal keeper, and saved an important penalty. The senior girls soccer team is now off to state in September, hopefully for another successful day!!

The Intermediate table tennis day was an exciting event with some outstanding performances from all 3 teams. Both the boys A and B team show their skills, remaining undefeated the whole day, until the finals. After an intense game, the outcome of the Boys A finals was ultimately decided by points, unfortunately not going our way. They showed great spirits both during and after the game.
Although the girls only had 3 players, they showed great teamwork and held strong throughout the day gaining a couple of wins up their sleeves as well.
It was a great day out in Coburg!
