World at War
Getting hands-on with History
As part of the Year 9 History subject World at War, Humanities teachers David Adam and Tom Russo developed a large-scale board game to demonstrate the factors behind the beginning and escalation of World War 1. Students made alliances, built colonial empires, and engaged in strategic battles to expand their influence and territory in WW1-era Europe.
This proved to be an engaging and popular learning activity. Students gave some very positive feedback saying “a fun hands-on way to understand the causes behind World War 1”, “the game was awesome” “dramatically improved my understanding of the main causes of the war” and “we need to play this more often”.
