Art Making and Exhibiting

My Country at the Ian Potter Centre

Year 11 Art Making and Exhibiting students headed to the NGV Australia on Wednesday 24 July to study the incredible artworks on display by First Nations artists in the My Country exhibition. There was some very dense content covered, including the artwork by Aidan Hartshorn, whose work ‘These Violent Delights’ explores the colonisation on his Country, specifically the Snowy Mountains Scheme, where ‘the once powerful bila (water) ancestor that previously carved its way through Country has now become a stagnant, motionless weapon that holds back and turns away Walgalu people from accessing, practising and existing within their Ancestral homelands.’

Students will select three artworks from this exhibition to create their own hypothetical, themed exhibition, adding three artists of their own choosing into the mix. Pictured here are some members of the class working hard on their SAC preparation research and contemplating the artworks in the amazing contemporary art space of the NGV.
