Unit 3/4 Economics students celebrated the Federal Budget earlier this term, with VSC’s annual budget party. Popcorn, party hats and bingo made for a fun lesson as students tuned in to watch Jim Chalmers deliver the Budget and put their economics knowledge into practice.

Economics students have been studying the Australian economy and the key objectives of government policy, including strong and sustainable economic growth, full employment and low and stable inflation. This provided a timely lens to analyse the 2026-27 Budget as it was released.
With cost-of-living pressures, a recent international fuel shock and ongoing global uncertainty, the Federal Budget made for interesting watching. There was plenty of discussion in class about potential changes to key tax settings such as Capital Gains Tax and negative gearing, as well as measures like the new $250 WATO.

A fun and engaging way for our Economics students to connect classroom theory with real-world economic policy.
