Dear parents and carers, with initiatives such as Dry July encouraging Australians to reflect on the role alcohol plays in their lives, it is a timely reminder for you to consider the messages young people receive about alcohol and how family attitudes can influence their understanding of drinking.

Open, age-appropriate conversations about alcohol can help children develop healthy attitudes and make informed choices as they grow. Research shows that strong family communication, clear expectations, and positive role modelling are some of the most effective ways to support young people and reduce risk-taking behaviours.
As children become more independent, they may encounter increasing social pressures and opportunities to experiment with alcohol. If you would like to gain some more information about this topic, such as the impact of alcohol on children and adolescents and practical strategies to help families navigate these conversations with confidence and care, we encourage you to take some time to explore the new SchoolTV Edition “Drinking and Alcohol” https://vermontsc.vic.schooltv.me/newsletter/drinking-alcohol-au
If you have any concerns about your child's wellbeing, please contact the school's wellbeing team or seek advice from an appropriate health professional.
