Vocational Major Students Showcase Learning Through Hands-On Experiences

It has been a busy and rewarding term for our Vocational Major students, who have continued to develop valuable workplace, personal and community skills through a range of engaging activities.

In Applied Learning, students have been designing and constructing mousetrap cars, putting their problem-solving, teamwork and engineering skills to the test. Through trial, error and innovation, students have explored how design improvements can increase speed, distance and efficiency.

Our ongoing intergenerational program with Vermont Views Care Community has also provided meaningful learning opportunities. Students have enjoyed creating colourful mosaic artworks alongside residents while building connections across generations. Through conversations and shared activities, students have reflected on the life stories, experiences and advice offered by residents, gaining valuable insights into resilience, career pathways and personal growth.

As the semester draws to a close, students have been working hard to complete assessment tasks for the end of Unit 1 and Unit 3. Their dedication and commitment to meeting deadlines has been commendable.

Several students have also been undertaking work placements, gaining firsthand experience in a variety of industries. These placements provide an excellent opportunity to develop employability skills, build confidence and explore future career options.

Adding to the practical learning experiences, students recently participated in special Food Technology sessions where they prepared homemade sausage rolls and pizzas. The sessions focused on food preparation techniques, kitchen safety, teamwork and following instructions, while producing some delicious results.

We are proud of the enthusiasm, effort and growth demonstrated by our Vocational Major students this term and look forward to seeing them continue to build their skills and confidence throughout the year.
