Year 7 News

Vermont Secondary College

It’s nearly the end of the term with just over two weeks left. The Year 7s on the whole have well and truly adapted to secondary school life, which is great to see.

Transition

Just a reminder that next week will be the start of Semester 2 transition. This is where the students will have new classes and teachers, for example, students who had Geography first term will now have History. Just be mindful to watch out for a completely new timetable. It is important that students try and print off their new timetable and stick it in their diaries or lockers. Also, it is worthwhile to check that students have all the appropriate classroom equipment for their new subjects.

Image Consent

Please check that you have submitted image consent for Year 7 students. With consent it becomes a lot easier to publish team photos, particularly of sporting events and camps. If you are unsure of how to do this please contact one of the student managers or the general office.

New Uniform Policy

This Friday there will be house assemblies that will include a slideshow on correct and incorrect school uniform. This will be a good opportunity to clear up any confusion about the new uniform policy. Just a note for now, students are not to wear black pants to school or hoodies. However, they are able to wear their sport uniform any day, as long as it aligns with the school sport uniform guidelines. A compass message was sent out to all families, outlining the new policy.

Year 7 Participation in Library Activities

Thank you to all students who have been involved in recent co-curricular activities taking place in the school library. There was a big Year 7 turnout at the Harry Potter trivia that took place which is great to see the number of enthusiastic readers we have! Also, well done to all students who took part in the crime thriller story competition, there were a lot of submissions and quite long ones too- so the winner will be announced at a later date.

Here is a snippet of writing from one the Year 7 participants:

The storm arrived at Bennett Manor just after eleven.

Rain slammed against the tall windows, and thunder shook the old mansion like it was alive. Lightning flashed over the cliffs, briefly lighting up the huge building before darkness returned. The forest around the house swayed violently in the wind, making it look like it was moving closer to the mansion.

Inside, everything felt worse than the storm outside.

The air was heavy and silent. No one spoke loudly. No one moved without thinking. Guests stayed in small groups, whispering to each other, afraid of what was happening in the house.

Because something terrible had already happened.

Arthur Bennett was dead.
