Congratulations to the Year 8 Netball Team for an outstanding performance during interschool sport, winning all three games! The team displayed excellent teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination throughout the day, constantly encouraging and supporting one another on and off the court. Their behaviour and professionalism were excellent, and they represented our school with pride and respect at all times. Special mentions to our coaches to Khiara and Bree for coaching the Year 8 Boys Netball Team with great pride. They ensured everyone stayed organised and encouraged the team throughout the entire day. Very well done everyone!

Intermediate Boys Netball

Well done to our intermediate boys' netball teams! Both Team A and Team B walked away undefeated against Highvale, Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley. Both teams demonstrated great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the day. Shout out to captain Jack H who was unmatched for all three games, and to Tyler S who played an excellent final game as centre. A massive thank you to our volunteer coaches Sienna W and Ella I for coming along and helping out the boys! Much appreciated. Hopefully we can continue the winning streak at regionals.

Intermediate Girls Australian Football

The intermediate girls footy had a successful day at Heatherdale reserve winning all three games and progressing onto Eastern Region Finals. The girls demonstrated a high level of skill, a strong appetite for the contest and shared the ball amongst teammates.

Goal kickers on the day included Charlie, Zara, Holly, Jade, Gen, Ella, Alex, Molly, Summer and Fiona.

Senior Girls Australian Football

The senior girls footy team had a hot start to the day winning their first match against Mount Waverley 42-0. They then had a game off ahead of what was to be a tough slog of back to back games with only 16 available players.

The next match against Highvale was another comfortable win with us fielding 15 on the field to their 16, but that didn’t come without some knocks, bumps and bruises amongst the contested chaos.

A 10 minute break to recharge and gear up for 2x20 minute halves against Mount Waverley who to their credit had bulk player availability with the luxury of a bench including approximately 6 players in addition to their fully fielded team of 18 players to our now available 15. It was a tight contest which saw MWSC do a great job of causing repeat stoppage and preventing us from getting any form of run and carry. Scoring opportunities were minimal, fatigue was setting in and it got tough between the ears. The half time score was 1-0 in Mount Waverley’s favour. A stark difference to the halftime score earlier in the day! The second half saw us continue to compete as best we could, though the marks just didn’t seem to stick, and we couldn’t capitalise on our forward entries. MWSC had kicked another behind, followed by a goal. We were able to respond with a goal with 10 minutes to go leaving the score at 8-6. Unfortunately, some more opportunities went begging, and despite us wrestling back some momentum MWSC managed to kick another goal against the run of play giving them the lead of 14-6, which eventuated as the final score. Thanks to Tilly and Stephy for their help assisting on the sidelines – I’m sure you would have definitely preferred to be out there!

A disheartening end to a fantastic day, but I am incredibly proud of the team who turned up, competed hard and willed themselves as best they could over a long day playing 6x20 minute quarters with no available rotations. There were some great moments over the course of the day with plenty of run down tackles, contested marks, goals, celes and many more!

Thanks to Josh for running the selection process, choosing the teams and the order within each team.  There was a huge number of students who tried out which indicates the popularity of the sport.

Thanks also to Nikayla for attending and assisting on the day and for Ms Malander and Mr Gillespie for their work behind the scenes in getting the team organised for the day.

The intermediate girls soccer team played really well during all of their games at Monash University, winning 2 of the 3 games but unfortunately, they didn’t make it through to regionals. They showed great team work and sportsmanship during all of their games and should still be very proud of their performance that day.

Boys

On a windy blustery day, year 8 boys gave their all to play three competitive matches. Against Highvale the boys secured a 0-0 draw. Then a 1-0 victory against Mount Waverley. It came down to the final match; we had to secure a victory against Glen Waveley. Unfortunately, they scored three goals, and we lost the final game. Our coaches Valerio and Connor were superb, squeezing every ounce of skill and energy from the team.  Team Managers Mr Quinn and Mr Duiveman added their experience and wisdom. A fun day had by all. As they say “there is always next year!”.

Girls

On the 1st of June, the year 8 girls soccer team competed at Monash University playing three games to determine if they make it through to regionals. The first game they played was against Highvale and we won 5-0. The second game that was played was against Mount Waverley and was a tough one with the end results being 1-1. Once the rain started, it stayed all day, however the girls pushed through, smashing Glen Waverley 7-0. Congratulations girls on your wins today and good luck in regionals on the 30th of July!

YEAR 7 ROUND ROBIN

Boys Australian Football

Vermont Secondary College – Year 7 Boys AFL Game 1 vs GWS — Win 5.3 (33) to 1.2 (8) A strong opening performance set the tone for the day. Spencer was dominant in the ruck, winning crucial contests and giving Vermont first use throughout. Brody was composed and creative off half back, helping the team transition cleanly out of defence. Ashton and Jett were dangerous up forward, with Jett in particular causing havoc — his footwork leaving opponents flat-footed. Defensively, Caleb stood out with a crucial tackle, and Callum’s well-timed smother showed great defensive pressure. Goal kickers: Jett, Hunter, Jimmy, Jude, Jai Game 2 vs GWS — Win 15.6 (96) to 0.0 (0) An emphatic statement. The team lifted to another level entirely, shutting out the opposition completely while piling on the score at the other end. Brody was the standout with three goals, and Aris and Hunter were also prominent with two each. Owen was selfless and creative, using his elite hands to set up teammates — most notably finding Satwick for a goal in the square. Lucas showed great impact after a memorable moment early in the piece. Goal kickers: Jimmy, Lucas 2, Hunter 2, Jett, Ashton, Spencer, Brody 3, Aris 2, Owen, Satwick Game 3 vs Mount Waverley — Win 3.3 (21) to 2.2 (14) The toughest test of the day. Vermont trailed by two goals at half time and had to dig deep to find a way through. Hai was excellent around the contest all day, providing grunt and presence when it mattered most. Hunter showed great vision to set up Jett, who also produced a chase-down tackle that fired the team up. When Vermont needed a moment of quality to seal it, Jimmy delivered — kicking a composed goal in the dying minutes to secure the win. Credit to captain Taz, whose pre-game speeches had the boys switched on and ready to compete from the first bounce. Goal kickers: Spencer, Jett, Jimmy Overall — 3 Wins from 3! A brilliant day for Vermont’s Year 7 boys. Three wins, a dominant middle performance, and a gutsy finish to the day showed this group has both talent and character. Plenty of individual highlights, but more importantly a real team effort across all three games. Round 2 of the interschool competition takes place on Tuesday 23rd June. After today’s impressive 3-from-3 performance, the boys will be eager to back it up. Keep an eye out for further details on timing and venue.

Badminton

Congratulations to both our year 7 boys and year 7 girls badminton teams for coming runners up in the year 7 round robin on Friday 5th of June. Both teams competed against three other schools and showed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the event, often socialising with other schools and cheering on their teammates. Thank you to the year 9 coaches who helped with scoring and coaching. Our year 7 badminton teams should be very proud of their effort and for achieving runners up!

Soccer

Boys

Year 7 Boys Soccer ventured out to Monash University to compete in the Inter school sports. Our day started brilliantly with a 3-0 win against Highvale SC. After a long break we then faced up to Mount Waverley which we easily took care of with a 3-1 win. Our team had to beat the most fancy team of Glen Waverley, guess what, we won that too with a 4-1 win. 3 wins therefore allowed us to progress to the next round which will be held next term. All up an all-round team performance. Special thanks to our coaches Rohaan and Madiyar, and our Team Manager: Mr Duiveman.
