Year 9 Discovering the Outdoors – Warburton Camp

In Week 6, the Year 9 Discovering the Outdoors class ventured out to Warburton for their three-day outdoor camp. This camp provided the opportunity to take the things students been learning at school, such as minimal environmental impact strategies, cooking on Trangia stoves, and hiking and camping skills, and apply them in a practical outdoor setting.

We managed to avoid most of the rain and cold whilst enjoying several activities that included visiting Mount Donna Buang, hiking at Steavensons Falls and Keppel Lookout in Marysville, and wandering along the Yarra River in the town of Warburton itself.

The camp was a memorable experience, that hopefully helped the students foster a strong connection to natural outdoor environments for many years to come.

Wrapping up Semester 1!

Congratulations on completing another semester year 9s! A big thank you to you for all your hard work as you finish up some of your semester electives, make sure you get all those last assessments in and keep an eye out for changes to your timetable next week. You’ve been working magnificently and I speak for all the year 9 teachers in commending your efforts as we get your reports ready.

A quick note on uniform; most of the classes have had a visit from a student manager to go through the change in uniform policy. The main thing to remember is to not mix your academic and PE uniforms and under no circumstances are you to wear a hoodie. You know the rules but if you’re unsure, please come and speak to us in the office. We’re also happy to help out with uniform passes if you need, just bring a note to in the morning and you’re good. Thank you so much to those who have taken the opportunity to wear their proper uniform as per the new policy already, it’s looking really smart!

Finally, we’ve just tied up the final of the year 9 Volleyball Tournament! It was a nail biter right to the end with Team Spike Tyson just beating Team IDK in the tiebreaker set. This was a completely student led program with a huge number of students volunteering their time and energy to making it work. A big thank you to those who helped to referee as well and also, those who came down to watch and cheer their friends on. This is a great reminder of what we can do to build culture and activities at school so if you have an idea that you want to get going, come and speak to us about making it happen.

Keep up the good work!
