Big Win Against Victory Lutheran College to make Quarter Final
Proud of our Senior Boys Cricket XI who had a big 20/20 win against Wodonga's Victory Lutheran College at South Wangaratta on the 17th February.
Batting 1st, we made 8/128 with Co-Captain Ned O'Kane top scoring with 30 coming in at #5. Opener and Co-Captain Tom Ford (18), #4 Oscar Benson (15) and opener Eucalyptus Boonzayer (13) also contributed important knocks. Tom Ford claimed 3 wickets in the match to take the Man Of The Match honours, while Anthony Chisholm picked up 2.
In Match 2 against Galen Catholic College at the Galen oval, the boys made a respectable 9/119 but Galen reached our score (3/120 in the 10th over.
Our two Co-skippers again top scored with the bat - Ned O'Kane swashbuckling a Captain's-Knock half-century (54), and Tom Ford getting 25.
Oscar Benson, for large chunks of both innings batting in partnership with 1st cousin O'Kane, chimed in with a handy 15. His total of 30 runs across the day, alongside his 1 wicket, made him the star Year 11 player in the team.
Multiple wicket takers for the day were Ford (3), Chisholm (2) and Ryley Downing (2), while Benson, Jack Ford and Robbie Leadbetter snared 1 each.
In the field, Jack Preston led the way with 2 catches, while Jack Lockhart took a one-handed screamer in the Victory match.
It was a big 2 days of School Sport for all-round talents O'Kane and Tom Ford. The joint-Senior Ovens House Captains lifted the Swimming Shield on Friday, and went Top 2 in the Age Group Champion (O'Kane saluting to win his 3rd overall Age Group title). Ford has 7. They were also the respective Key Backmen in last year's Ovens & Murray FL Under 18 Football Grand Final - O'Kane for Wangaratta Magpies, Ford for Wangaratta Rovers.
Thanks for your efforts boys, and thanks again to current-parent and former-teacher Kev McGennan for the great photos.
Unfortunately, Cathedral College were too strong in the School Sport Victoria Upper Hume Quarter Final when we played them on the 25th February, but it was a good experience for our boys.
Year 9 Hugh Spring, who top scored (24) as opening batsman and took a wicket, won our Man Of The Match honours. Other wicket takers were Thomas Fieldew, Andrew Fraser and Kayden Vozlic, while Fieldew took two catches in the field.
