Year 12 Outdoor & Environmental Studies:

Barmah National Park

Last week the Year 12 Outdoor & Environmental Studies class ventured up to the Murray River for an overnight camp in the Barmah National Park.

Barmah Forest is significant for a range of reasons, with its intermittently flooding expanses gaining it ‘Ramsar status’ as a wetland of international importance for migratory birds. Students learned about the significant Indigenous Australian history in the area and examined the more recent evidence of human impact on the landscape.

We paddled canoes around Barmah Lake before camping the night and enjoying a leisurely paddle down the Murray to the township of Barmah on the second day.

Special thanks to Mr Johnson and Mr Hildebrand for coming along on the trips. A fantastic start to the year.
