YEAR 9 CLC PROGRAM

First Air Training for CLC

Our Year 9 C.L.C (Community Leadership Challenge) students had a day of First Aid training recently.

Many were exposed to the DRSABCD protocol, CPR technique (complete with Manikins) and Epi-pen procedures for the first time.

These vital skills are now in their Toolbox, ready if needed on their many upcoming excursions, and when out in the community volunteering every Wednesday in Term 2.

Afterward, they played a giant game of Human Foosball in the Sport Centre - a game heavily focused on Teamwork.

To finish the day, it was a Just Dance team challenge, inspired by the recent GWS Giants viral video, designed to push them outside their comfort zone dancing in front of their peers. The resulting scene was remarkable, with virtually the entire room on their feet dancing up a storm - even the lads.

CLC Heads to Border

A terrific group of Year 9's are in the midst of Excursion Season in our C.L.C (Community Leadership Challenge) program, undertaking day-trips designed to build Empathy, Resilience, Community, Connection, Mindfulness, Gratitude, Trust, Respect and Kindness.

Thank you to Zone Laser Tag Albury for hosting us for the 1st time. Our 45 students had a blast challenging themselves at Laser Tag, Mini Golf and Human Foosball. Matthew Leerson (playing as “Talon”) was the deadliest tagger, followed by Cam Vincent (“Jester”) and Lachlan Downing (“Gauntlet”).

After lunch at the Albury Botanical Gardens, we hiked from the Gardens up to the top of Monument Hill (an 80m rise across 550m) where at the Memorial students were tasked to study one of the fallen soldiers and reflect on the concepts of Gratitude and Empathy.

The group head to Lake William Hovell for their next trip, another day which will help them prepare for their weekly Volunteering in Term 2.

C.L.C at Lake William Hovell

It was another tremendous day yesterday for our C.L.C (Community Leadership Challenge) Year 9's, who continued their Excursion Season at Lake William Hovell.

Focusing on Connection and Team Work, they engaged in a 5km Bush Hike under the towering Gum Trees, Slack Line challenges, and the traditional Pipe Filling Challenge in teams on the beach of the stunning lake.

Inanay Gilson was the champion in the Longest Leaf Competition, while Lanie Evans was a standout with her acrobatics on the Slack Line.

They are now further prepared and another step toward their end goal, of volunteering around town each Wednesday of Term 2.
