Year 11 Food Studies – Exploring Food, Culture, and Cuisine!
Year 11 Food Studies has taken a delicious turn as students have explored the fascinating world of food systems, cultures, and cuisines! From understanding the journey of food from farm to plate to examining the impact of culture on what we eat, our classroom has been buzzing with rich discussions and hands-on experiences.
Of course, no exploration of food would be complete without some practical cooking sessions. Students have rolled up their sleeves and created a variety of mouth-watering dishes, including Pad Thai, quinoa and brown rice salad, roasted carrot salad, chicken, zucchini, and quinoa burger patties, and the always-popular chicken parmigiana with salad. Each dish has provided an opportunity to discuss food sustainability, preparation techniques, and the significance of ingredients across different cultures.
This unit has been a feast for the senses, combining critical thinking with real-world application. Whether analysing the ethics of food production or perfecting their cooking skills, students have engaged in an exciting journey that goes beyond the textbook.
With more exciting lessons ahead, we can’t wait to see how students continue to connect food with culture, history, and storytelling. Stay tuned for more delicious learning adventures!
