Upper Hume Champion in the Pool at 2027 School Sport Victoria Upper Hume Meet
Merlin Tzaros and Imogen Rocchiccioli led the way for our 30-strong Swimming Team at yesterday’s School Sport Victoria Upper Hume meet at Wodonga WAVES, competing against the other 8 schools across Wangaratta and Wodonga.
Merlin became Upper Hume Champion once again, winning the Open Age 400m Freestyle for the 2nd year in row. The 16 year old SSV and VIC Triathlon State Team member beat his Personal Best by 4 seconds, breaking the 5 minute barrier in a time of 4:57.94. The Year 11 who also was Upper Hume Champion last year in the 3000m Cross Country run, and both the 1500m and 3000m (setting all-time records for both) at the Track & Field meet, also set Personal Best times in both the 50m and 100m Freestyle events.
Year 7 Imogen Rocchiccioli was Runner-Up in her Age Group Champion medal at her 1st ever Upper Hume meet. She was .5 of a second off winning her 50m Breastroke, and as Runner-Up qualifies for the Hume Region stage on March 14th. She also snared two 3rd places (50 Butterfly and 50 Backstroke) and a 4th (50 Freestyle).
Our 15 Boys Freestyle Relay team (Year 9s Charlie Bell, Lachlan Downing, Hugh Spring and Zach Wills) also qualified, finishing Runner-Up in their race, as did our 13-14 Girls Medley Relay crew (Year 7s Havarna Long, Jordana Moore, Rocchiccioli and Year 8 Ellie Hutchieson).
Others to place (3rd) were Year 8 Nick Jones (50m Backstroke), Year 11 Jada Ryan (50m Backstroke), the 13 Girls Freestyle Relay team (Year 7s Evie Fisher and Jolie Mitchel, with Hutchieson and Rocchiccioli), the 13-14 Boys Medley team (Ollie Fisher, Angus Fraser, Nick Jones and Austin Whitehead), and the 16 Girls Freestyle Relay team (Ruby Burns, Kaity Ford, Inanay Gilson and Jada Ryan) which had 3 girls stepping up to the higher age group to race with Jada.
Thanks to all swimmers for competing and being wonderful ambassadors for our school once again.
