Science

You matter. Unless you multiply yourself times the speed of light squared. Then you energy.

Year 1 & 2 – Sound

This term, our Year 1 and 2 scientists have been exploring the wonderful world of sound! We have investigated how sounds are made through vibrations and explored the difference between pitch and volume. Students have experimented with a range of materials and objects, discovering how changing different features can change the sounds they produce. They have also put their learning into action by designing and creating their own musical instruments or sound-reducing headphones/earmuffs. We have loved seeing our young scientists test, problem-solve, improve and get creative with their designs!

Year 3 & 4 – Heat

Our Year 3 and 4 students have been investigating heat and heat transfer this term. We have explored different sources of heat and investigated how heat can move from one object or material to another. Students have been learning about good and poor conductors of heat and using their observations to think about why different materials are chosen for different purposes. They are now applying their scientific understanding to an exciting playground design challenge, considering how materials, heat, safety, accessibility and cost can influence their designs.

Year 5 & 6 – Electrical Circuits

Our Year 5 and 6 scientists have been getting switched on to electrical circuits! Students have been exploring how circuits work, investigating conductors and insulators, and learning about the different roles of components such as cells, wires, switches and lights. Through hands-on experimentation and circuit simulations, students have been encouraged to play, experiment, problem-solve and learn from circuits that don't work! They will use their growing understanding to design and create a model incorporating a working electrical circuit.
