Term Three

Foundation

During Term 3 the foundation students have been expanding their Auslan vocabulary and sharing information about activities that they enjoy at school, home and sporting activities. In addition the the phrase "I can..." that have included verbs such as play, swim, climb, run, jump, swim, dance, ride, kick, eat and sleep. They are beginning an awareness that you can show the intensity of these actions by the way you sign the phrase through movement and speed.  In this last week of term, we will be revising sign knowledge through interactive games such as bingo, building activities and card games.

Year One

Year One classes have been busy developing sign knowledge about the weather and clothing. They have been working on their portfolio tasks over the past few weeks bring all of this information together into a presentation about what they would wear depending on their chosen weather forecast.  Many students are yet to present their work but are working hard behind the scenes to present their work in the first few weeks of Term 4. (If you don't see your child in the pictures, you will see their work at the end of the term).

Year Two

Year Two students have been focused on time and sequencing events this term. They have been learning about the time signs such today, tomorrow, yesterday, days of the week and sequential order such as 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th.

Whilst developing sign knowledge with regards to these concepts, they have been using their morning or day routines as a focus point to develop short presentations. In addition, we have read or watched stories and they have then thought about how they can recall these stories in Auslan.  Students are continuing to build their Auslan phrases using past and present sign knowledge to extend themselves and using the wall anchor charts to support their learning.

Years Three and Four

The years three to four students have been exploring Auslan storytelling this term. This was in support of our amazing production where the students had to commit to characters onstage as the descendents of the Wicked Witch of the West. To expand on their amazing onstage presence we have explored telling stories with our faces, emotions and the constructed action of our own characters. They have been very successful in creating simple stories and translating them with hands, faces, bodies and space. They should be very proud of their terms work.

Years Five and Six

Year five and six students have been very busy this term with their roles in the school production and so we have been reviewing numbers, dates, places and time for a birthday party plan activity. This has built on existing skills but also allowing students to work together to plan and create a simple text to share with their classmates using their Auslan skills. We will be continuing this work through into term four.
