Mid-Autumn Festival Assembly

We were thrilled to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival at today's whole school assembly! Thank you to our students for sharing their learning and creations with our community this morning, some of which we have included below:

大家好！欢迎大家来到 Essendon North Primary School 的中秋节 assembly!

Dà jiā hǎo! Huān yíng dà jiā lái dào de zhōng qiū Jié

这个星期，我们学习了中秋节，还做了许多有趣的文化活动。

Zhè ge xīng qī, wǒ men xué xí le zhōng qiū jié, hái zuò le xǔ duō yǒu qù de wén huà huó dòng。

今天, 我们很高兴把学到的知识和作品分享给大家。

jīn tiān, wǒ men hěn gāo xìng bǎ xué dào de zhī shi hé zuò pǐn fēn xiǎng gěi dà jiā。

大 家 好 (Hello Everyone)! dà jiā hǎo

In the past few weeks, students have continued to strengthen their Mandarin communication skills through creative projects, presentations and revision activities. Each year level has had opportunities to apply previously learned vocabulary and sentence structures in meaningful and engaging ways.

Foundation students revised the Chinese numbers from one to ten while completing their mix-and-match animal dice. Students rolled their dice to create funny animals and used Chinese number knowledge to describe the animals’ different body parts.

Year Two students revised important vocabulary and sentence starters from their panda unit, including 这是 (this is), 大熊猫 (giant panda), 有 (has), 吃 (eats) and 住在 (lives in). They completed and published their panda books before recording themselves reading their stories on Seesaw.

Year Four students completed their original clothing or shoe design posters. They also applied their knowledge of clothing, shoes and colours, using Mandarin sentence structures such as 我的衣服有 …… (My clothing has…) to describe their creations.

Year Five students finalised their habitat dioramas and accompanying podcasts or videos. They presented information about their chosen habitats and animals using Mandarin sentence structures learned throughout the term. Students also listened to their classmates’ recordings and collected information about different animals and habitats.

It has been wonderful to see students using Mandarin confidently across such a wide range of creative learning experiences. These projects have encouraged students to communicate, collaborate and connect their language learning with art, storytelling, design and digital technologies.
