Junior School Council

The Junior School Council, or JSC, is a group of 20 students – 2 elected students from each grade 4 class. We meet every Tuesday morning at 8:15 am with Ms Barnes and Mr Martin. We have been very busy this year! These are the things in which we have been involved:

Some students attended the dawn service on ANZAC Day in April. This was a very early start – 4:30 am, but we got to lay a wreath at the cenotaph in Werribee in front of hundreds of people, including the mayor of Wyndham.

All JSC attended an incursion in term 1, about battery recycling. This launched the battery recycling program here at TRPS. All grade 4 students and staff have been busily collecting used batteries that will be recycled, rather than sitting in landfill and leaking toxic chemicals into the ground and water sources.

The JSC students featured in a promotional video for our school. The video shows JSC engaged in a session, and the video is narrated by 2 of our JSC students – Mahin and Terrence, who did a fantastic job! This virtual tour of our school is available to watch on the school website if you’re interested in seeing it.

You will remember the pyjama day that was at the end of Term 2. That was planned, organised, promoted, and initiated by JSC students, who also collected the money from classes to be donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital. We raised over $1,700, which will go towards helping sick children and their families.

Every Wednesday morning at 8:30 am, JSC students participate in the Wednesday Welcome Crew. This is a group of 3 different students each week, who welcome new students and their families to TRPS. They talk with the latest student, walk with them to their new room, and show them the playgrounds and other important buildings, such as the toilets and sick bay.

We are currently working on a series of safety videos for our school. These cover the topics of playground safety, walking/running areas, appropriate toilet behaviour and using the pedestrian crossing safely. These will be distributed for all students to see and will be available soon.

Thank you for supporting the JSC, and we look forward to bringing you more opportunities this year.
