Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Here at Tarneit Rise Primary School, we place a big emphasis on the teaching of literacy and numeracy –it’s the core business of schools. Research has shown that there are six key components that contribute to successful beginning reading. Because of the importance of these components, they have become known as the 'Big Six’: oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. This year, we have implemented the  InitaLit program in years prep–2 and have been seeing some fantastic results. We have proudly hosted visitors from other schools who have visited to see the exemplary teaching here at TRPS. We are very proud of the learning gains made by our students and how families and schoolwork together to get the best learning outcomes for our students.

2026 Planning

We have had a significant number of students enrol for 2026 already, and places are filling up fast. If you have a prep child beginning school next year, please ensure all enrolments are finalised by the end of term. Please visit the school’s website to fill in an enrolment form.

We have started the early stages of organising classes for 2026.  If you are leaving the area and your child will not be attending Tarneit Rise Primary School next year, or if you plan on transferring your child to one of our neighbouring schools you are zoned to, please let the office know https://forms.gle/1c1YPewNVCG3R4UV9 so we can plan using accurate student numbers.  If you have a prep child starting next year, these enrolments should have already been finalised, but if not, please get these in as soon as possible.

Do you have a grade placement request for your child for 2026?

When making a grade placement request/s it is important you understand:

  • It is not to be assumed that information provided to the school in the past in relation to class placement will be considered in this year’s discussions. Previous requests are not kept on record and need to be voiced, if necessary, when requested each year.

  • only valid reasons will be taken into consideration by the school in decision making following any ‘requests’ made by parents for the following year’s class placement. Parents / carers who present such reasons and translate these into ‘requests’ should do so on the understanding that the request will be listened to and discussed with the appropriate personnel but not necessarily acted upon in the way requested.

  • placement of children in classes will be made considering the following, where relevant, for both the student and the cohort: class size, learning needs, gender mix, peer groups, sibling divisions, behavioural needs, special family circumstances, social or emotional needs, cohort dynamics, and teachers assigned to the year level (if known)

If you wish for us to consider your request, please fill in the google form below:

https://forms.gle/aDGiMVLJk748zY1h7

You will need to include in your request:

  1. your child’s full name

  2. your child’s current grade and teacher

  3. an explanation of your request

Grade placement requests are due by 3:30pm Friday October 10th.

This process is designed to gather information in order to create a positive learning environment for all students.  It is not a process for self-selection of classmates or teachers.  Thank you for your continued support of this complex process.

As we approach the school holidays, we encourage you and your children to make the most of the break. Whether you’re staying home, traveling, or finding a balance between rest and enrichment, we’ve got you covered!

Fun and Engaging Activities The holidays are a perfect time for your children to explore new interests and enjoy some fun activities. Here are a few ideas:

  • Creative Projects: Encourage your child to work on a holiday-themed craft or DIY project.
  • Outdoor Adventures: Whether it’s a local park or a nature hike, spending time outside is always a great option. Spring is the perfect time to get out and about.
  • Reading Time: Visit your local library and let your child pick out books that pique their interest. Or head into the city to visit the State Library of Victoria.

Maintaining a Routine While it’s important to relax and have fun over the holidays, maintaining a loose routine can help ease the transition back to school. Consider setting aside some time each day for reading, educational games, or simple chores.

Preparing for the New School Term The holiday break is a great opportunity to prepare for the upcoming school term.  Please remember school hates are required for terms four and one, so holidays are a good opportunity to find school hats and ensured all uniform is clearly labelled (in case they find their way to the lost property basket). Holidays are also a good time for any health and dental check-ups, so children don’t miss unnecessary school time.

Safety and Well-being Finally, ensure your child’s safety during the holidays by supervising their activities, especially if they’re spending time online. Encourage healthy habits and remind them of the importance of staying safe.

Another thing adults can consider doing over the is donating blood or plasma.

Five reasons to donate blood these school holidays.

Your blood can save lives. It can become a lifesaving habit. Cold and flu season can cause a drop in Australia’s blood supply.

Good habits can be hard to form, but this could be the most important habit you ever create. One in three Australians will need blood or blood products in their lifetime. Chances are, that includes someone close to you. Maybe they needed it to help them fight a tough illness such as cancer, or when they were going through surgery, or maybe they are one of the thousands who need blood during pregnancy and childbirth. You could make a real difference regularly, to someone just like Ismaeel: Dear Donors: from boy in a bubble to unstoppable bubbly boy | Lifeblood

  1. Giving blood looks good — literally.

That’s right: a blood donation bandage makes you more attractive. Well, sort of. It’s a quick (and surprisingly easy) way to show the world how generous you are without bragging. And who isn’t drawn to a generous person? We’re not just making it up; Lifeblood did the research.

  1. Australia is changing, and so are our blood types.

Did you know certain blood types are more common in certain parts of the world? About half of people living in Australia today were either born overseas, or have a parent born overseas. With the changes to our population come different blood types, and even some rare ones. A diverse population means we need diverse donors to help out (and you could be one).

  1. Snacks

Need we say more? But, if the mere mention of snacks isn’t enough, you should also know that Lifeblood supports Australian suppliers and has a huge range of options. Feel like an old-fashioned sausage roll? No worries. Or is a vegan slice more your style? Not a problem. Replenish after your donation with your favourite kind of tasty treat.

  1. You can get your whole family and friends involved.

Donating alone is great, but sharing such an important moment with friends or family is even better. Nothing beats the feeling of saving lives together. And it’s even better with Lifeblood Teams. So when you next give blood, check to see if you can join our school’s Lifeblood Team.

Your local blood donor centre is located at 7 Bridge Street Werribee.

To book an appointment to give blood: Download the ‘DonateBlood’ app or book an appointment online or if you would like talk, call Australian Red Cross Lifeblood on 13 14 95.

We hope you and your family have a joyful and restful holiday season. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to welcoming your child back to school on October 6th!

Extra-Curricular

  • Remember, Breakfast Club is open to all every Thursday and Friday morning from 8.15 am and is free!
  • The Walking School Bus operates on Friday mornings. Staff are on duty at 8.00 am and the ‘bus’ leaves at 8.10 am from the Coles carpark in Hummingbird Blvd. We pick children up along the way, walking safely to school and encouraging physical activity too. It’s a great way to start the day and also avoids traffic congestion around the school.
  • The library is open every morning from 8.15 am, for children to borrow books.

Have a safe and relaxing break
