Physical Education News

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back to another action-packed PE Newsletter! We have seen so much progress throughout this term and the students are smashing it!

Congratulations to our Athletics team on representing the school at division athletics. 28 students from grades 4-6 went to Newport athletics track on the 11th of September and did an amazing job. They should be so proud. We definitely are!

Preps, Grade One and Grade Two

The Preps, Ones, and Twos have continued their work with throwing and catching, as well as their magic shoebox movements, in preparation for our Fundamental Movement Skill testing early next term! As explained previously, when throwing, students follow the process of a skateboard stance, bunny ears grip, and placing the ball behind their body, aiming once and then following through to ensure accuracy. When performing a high catch, students follow the process of releasing, then rotating the catch.

Grade 3s to 6s

Grade 3s and 4s have continued with their fitness unit by completing our fitness circuit. Students recorded their results in a chart and now have 3 weeks’ worth of data to compare their repetitions in six different exercises. The students have been asked to choose some of their favourite exercises and implement them at home. As previously mentioned, this unit aims to help students create fitness circuits at home to improve overall health and wellbeing, so we hope you’ve seen some of these circuits being put together at home.

Children will be completing the Coopers Run again in week 9, and we hope to see improvement from their week 5 score. As attached in last week's newsletter, below is a table with the approximate Coopers Run standards that provide an idea of where students should be regarding their fitness depending on their age. We have also attached a lap conversion chart to assist in calculating a student's total distance and average pace in minutes per kilometre.
