Grade 6 Community News

Hello Grade 6 families!
One more week of term until school holidays!
Reading
This week, the students are continuing to read and analyse the novel ‘Boy Overboard’ by Morris Gleitzman. As we continue to read the novel, the students will examine and analyse character development throughout the novel, the emotions the characters feel in different scenarios, symbolism in the novel, the importance of family ties, and how the author builds suspense and tension.
Writing
In writing, the students have been learning the features of letters and emails. Following this, the students have written their own letters by selecting a recipient of their letter, with the option of it relating to their graduation, for example writing a letter to sponsors for graduation for the awards or Miss Pearce requesting something special at their graduation. The students have also been exploring and practising how to properly send emails to their teachers to assist with their transition into high school.
Maths
In maths, we have finished our measurement unit in which students learned how to convert between units of mass (mg, g, kg, t), length (mm, cm, m, km) and capacity (mL, L, kL, ML), as well as comparing between different units. This week, we are starting our next unit to end off the term: location and transformation. In this unit, the students are learning about negative numbers, how to read and plot coordinates on the Cartesian plane and how to transform shapes on the Cartesian plane.
Reminders
The Graduation and Funfields events have gone up on Compass. All the information can be found there as well as payment and consent.
Enjoy the end of the term, and we hope you have lovely holidays!
