T.E.A.M

Our T.E.A.M program came to an end last week and this learning emphasised teamwork and connection in our school community. Students developed classroom routines and processes in the morning and afternoon. They also revisited expectations for indoor play during an alternate weather timetable. As a class, students discussed suitable indoor play options and created a poster. These posters will be laminated and displayed in the room for students to visually see and be able to follow.

Phonics

This fortnight in phonics, the students have been practising how to spell ‘-sh’ words. They have used sound cards to manipulate to spell a range of different words. The students also took part in a dictation of words they practiced in Year 1 to check for fluency and their letter sound knowledge. As the students explore a range of different sounds, they will continue to develop their phonological awareness.

Reading

This fortnight in reading, the students have been learning about making predictions about a text. Using clues from the front cover including the pictures and the title, the students have made a good guess about what the text is about and what might happen to the characters. They have made predictions about a whole class text and then made predictions about their own texts and read independently to see if their prediction was accurate.

Writing

This fortnight in writing, the students have been working on writing simple sentences about their favourite animal. The students were writing with a particular focus on using capital letters, full stops and remembering to include finger spaces between words. As the students had more practise with writing, they went back to their original piece of work to edit and revise to ensure they were grammatically correct. Some students even challenged themselves to make a compound sentence, linking two ideas together with a connective!

Maths

During our Maths lessons, students have been learning to name, record and represent 2 and 3 digit numbers in different ways. They practised reading numbers aloud, writing them correctly, and showing them using place value materials and breaking them down into hundreds, tens and ones. Students were successful when they could confidently name a 2 or 3 digit number and represent it using place value models, drawings or numerals.

Inquiry

The Year 2 cohort have had a wonderful start to the Term 1 Inquiry of ‘My Community’. Students explored the meaning of community and discovered that it is a place where people live, work or play together. They listed different places like the park, library, school, and police station as part of a community. Year 2 students then continued to explore which communities they belonged to, and they designed a mind map to guide them. They finished off the fortnight by creating a poster about themselves and their families.

Social and Emotional Learning

In S.E.L., Year 2 students have been learning how to be responsible by using the bathrooms and drink taps at appropriate times, especially during breaks. They discussed how to recognise when it is the right time to go and the importance of choosing a responsible partner to go with. Students discussed how making safe and sensible choices helps keep our school running smoothly and respectfully for everyone.

AUSLAN

In Auslan, students have been revising how to sign the alphabet and various greetings. They practised how to sign their name to a peer and say ‘hello’ or ‘good morning’. Students will continue to learn Auslan sign language in the classroom as part of the curriculum. They have been engaged and enthusiastic learners during these sessions.

Buddies During the T.E.A.M program, Year 2 students have enjoyed interacting with their 2026 buddies! They worked alongside their buddy supporting each other, being kind and connected and also an active member of the CPS community. They had lots of fun getting to know one another by working together on a Buddy Booklet and other activities.

The students had lots of fun getting to know each other, sharing facts about themselves and even drawing a self-portrait of their buddy with words to describe them around the outside.
