Reading

In Reading, Foundation students have been learning how to choose homereader books that suit both their interests and reading level. They have also learned how to care for books and practised important reading behaviours, such as reading from left to right and identifying parts of a book, including the front and back covers and the spine. Students participated in a whole-class read-aloud to develop an understanding of voice, expression, and the story.

Writing

This fortnight in Writing, students learned about nouns and explored what they include, such as people, animals, places, and things. They practised identifying nouns by looking at different pictures and sorting them into each category. Students also learned how to use describing words to add detail to a noun, helping to explain what something looks like. Using their understanding of nouns, students began forming sentences through a strategy called Think, Say, Draw and Write. They used this to visualise their ideas and clearly describe them when writing.

In Maths, students practised counting to 10 and learned how to identify numerals in their everyday world. They explored the difference between numerals, letters, and other symbols by sorting and naming them. The Foundation students also used tens frames, counters, and finger representations to match numbers to quantities from 0-10. The Foundation cohort practised saying, writing, and drawing each number in their number books.
