Year 7 Camp
...the OG Social Network

Our Year 7 students wrapped up Term 1 with a fantastic three-day camp involving the whole cohort.
Year 7 Camp is all about students taking the opportunity to build and deepen connections with their peers and teachers, while also challenging and enjoying themselves. The enthusiasm and energy were high from the first day, with a positive buzz filling the auditorium as we prepared for departure.
The camp kicked off with students getting to know their Activity Group peers and leaders. All of the students were in mixed groups, and it was great to see how many students finished camp having made new and genuine friendships beyond their 'pre-camp' peer groups.
It turns out that Year 7 Camp is indeed the BEST social platform on which to clock up new friends, likes, thumbs up and high fives!
Each day was packed with activities that encouraged students to try new things and also demonstrate their support for each other. We had rave reviews from a number of activities, including the adrenaline-pumping Giant Swing, canoeing on the lake, mountain biking through winding trails, and hitting multiple bullseyes during archery sessions. The nights were just as exciting where DJ-J (Ms Jenkins) hit play on the Spotify playlist for our disco party, while others tried their hand at becoming the next big NBA star on the basketball courts. Quiet card games and other alternate activities were also very popular for a number of students.
The cohort truly showed us that they belong at Brunswick Secondary College. We saw real time examples of the BSC values shown across the three days of camp. Cheers of encouragement were given at the Leap of Faith, kindness and respect during meal set- and pack-up, welcoming and inclusive environments at all of the activities was clearly evident - just to name a few examples.

Marlo Baulch
I liked the cabin time because it was nice to just play card games and chill with my friends after a long day.

Neddy Hicks
I enjoyed the evenings because we would have a delicious dinner and straight after we could do a great activity. I did Night Basketball and watched the movie. After these activities we got to reset in our cabin and have the best time just socialising.

Mila Hargitay
Last year (in Grade 6), at camp we had the option to do High Ropes but I was too scared to do it. This year I not only completed one of the high ropes courses, but I also trusted my friends to safely help me.

Charles Fry
The highlight of camp for me was biking, because the trail was very steep and it was fun to do the jumps!

Audrey Erickson
All the different activities were a real highlight, because I got to meet new people and to try different things.

Raff Hudson
The highlight for me in camp was when I did the Leap of Faith for the first time. It was so much fun, and I got over my fear of heights.
Year 7 camp was a fantastic way for our students to end Term 1, after such a strong start to their journey at BSC. The collective experience was so positive, with students and teachers enjoying the opportunity to connect outside the classroom and get to know each other better.
As Coordinators, we were very proud to see the students thrive in a different environment. They managed to push themselves out of their individual comfort zones - giving new activities a go, connecting with each other and playing a positive part in everyones' adventure - all the while having lots of fun.
Term 2 has seen our Year 7 students return to school with some great new memories, new friendships and high spirits, ready to face the rest of the year!
