School Captains

BSC celebrated a very successful Harmony Day event on March 23. With the support and assistance of Mr Glennie, SRC volunteers ran a successful sausage sizzle - there were lots of customers and we sold about 550 sausages! Emily and the Performing Arts Committee (PAC) organised for some live music acts to be playing on the BSC Green at lunchtime, entertaining the crowd. We were very excited to include some cultural music acts in the line-up - a most fitting addition to the celebration of cultural diversity at our school.
We replicated the fun on May 18 when we celebrated IDAHOBIT. We again utilised the school's eftPos machine at the event allowing for payments via both EFT and cash. This is more convenient for some students - and a great improvement to administration and management of a sales event - so we think this initiative ensures more sales on the day and reduced workload for the General Office!
All funds raised this year are donated to a charity that supports local individuals and families who are experiencing food insecurity. Thanks so much for your support for this cause.

As BSC School Captains, we are required to attend all regular of the BSC School Council. The council is made up of Department of Education Staff, Parent/Carer and Community category members - all of whom volunteer to support the school.
As School Captains we fill Community category positions, allowing us to add student voice to discussions. In addition to the Staff, Parent/Carer and Community category roles on School Council, the Department of Education mandates two Student Representative category positions. These are filled with students who nominate to represent thier peers, and who are elected by the student body.
Congratulations to Shant Chaagan (School Vice Captain) and Saskia Black (School Vice Captain) who have been elected to the Student Category positions - great to have you on board! Together, students on School Council are often called on to represent the SRC team and our peers by offering student perspective - which is (of course!) very important.
The SRC has stepped up its meeting schedule to weekly, and will announce its event plans later in Term 2. Working with old hands as well as new (junior) members, we have a lot to learn, discuss and to decide on, and if any student is keen to join the team and offer their support and ideas, they will be most welcome. There is lots to do in the year ahead, including more fundraising, fun activities and events, as well as planning for the best ever Twilight Market - so why not get involved?
SRC Meetings are held on Mondays at lunchtime in F8 - the door is open!
