Message from the Principal

Shane Gemmola
Acting Principal
We have enjoyed a very positive start to Term 2, with students returning settled, engaged and ready for learning. The tone across the college has been calm and purposeful, with classrooms quickly re-establishing strong routines and a clear focus on learning.
The BSC Experience
We recently recorded responses from a range of students sharing their experiences of life at BSC. From learning opportunities and friendships to extracurricular activities and everyday moments, this video offers an authentic insight into what makes our school community welcoming, engaging and full of opportunity.
Athletics Carnival
Our recent Athletics Carnival was a highly successful day, supported by excellent weather and outstanding participation from students. The event was characterised by terrific behaviour, strong house spirit and enthusiastic involvement across the entire day. Just as pleasing was the way students encouraged and supported one another throughout the carnival.
I would like to sincerely thank staff for their organisation and supervision in ensuring the day ran smoothly and provided such a memorable experience for students. In particular, thank you to our Vocational Major students, who once again did a fantastic job running the barbecue — always one of the highlights of our sporting events.
Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
One thing that has really struck me during my time as Acting Principal at the college is the enormous range of opportunities available to students outside the classroom. From our whole school production (featured later in this issue), outdoor education camps and sporting opportunities, through to co-curricular programs such as Maths Help, the Walking Club and the many music opportunities available, there truly is something for everyone.
I strongly encourage all students to get involved and take advantage of these experiences. A huge thank you must go to the staff who dedicate so much time and energy to creating opportunities for students to participate, connect and shine.
Celebrating Our Year 12 Students
It is important to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of our Year 12 students and teachers as they reach the halfway point of the year. This is such an important stage in preparing students for further education, training, apprenticeships or entering the workforce. From this point on, many significant milestones and celebrations begin to arrive quickly.
I was very pleased to hear that the recent Year 12 Formal was such a great success. Thank you to everyone involved in organising the evening, and congratulations to the students on the way they conducted themselves and enjoyed the night with such good humour and care for one another.
Strengthening Restorative Practices
The college has recently commenced work with the Re-Engage Restorative Practice Program. This initiative is designed to strengthen restorative approaches across the school, supporting positive relationships, student accountability and constructive conflict resolution.
Staff champions, including leaders and teachers, will undertake training in restorative procedures to help build internal expertise and support a more consistent whole-school approach to behaviour support and repairing relationships when issues arise.
Investing in Professional Learning
Earlier in May, staff participated in a whole-day professional learning program focused on differentiation in the classroom and ensuring all students are both supported and challenged in their learning. Our ongoing goal is to strengthen the experience of students across the college through a guaranteed and viable curriculum.
These professional learning days require significant planning and organisation, and I thank staff for their commitment to this important work, which will continue to support improved teaching and learning outcomes for years to come.
