As the Higher School Certificate continues to approach, Year 12 students have been working with determination and focus as they continue to prepare for their final examinations. Across the school, classrooms have been filled with the quiet concentration that comes from sustained effort and a shared commitment to achieving personal bests.
A key part of this preparation has been the introduction of intensive practice examinations. These sessions allow students to experience the pace and pressure of HSC conditions while developing strategies to manage their time effectively. By sitting practice papers and responding to unseen questions, students are gaining valuable experience that will help them feel confident and prepared when the official examinations begin.
Alongside these practice exams, the Year 12 cohort has also been attending whole year meetings to discuss upcoming assessments and to share advice about effective study habits. These sessions provide students with the opportunity to ask questions, clarify expectations and reflect on how they can continue to strengthen their approach to learning in the final stages of the course.
In English classes and across other subjects, students have been completing a range of targeted activities designed to sharpen their exam skills. These include timed writing tasks based on stimulus materials, which encourage students to quickly unpack questions and organise their ideas into clear and thoughtful responses. Students have also been practising writing concise thesis statements under time limits, helping them develop strong arguments that directly address exam questions.
Another important aspect of preparation has been close engagement with texts through careful annotation. By identifying key ideas, language features and structural techniques, students are building a deeper understanding of the material they will be asked to analyse in the HSC. Draft responses are also being submitted and refined through teacher feedback, giving students the chance to improve their writing and strengthen their analytical skills.
The commitment shown by the Year 12 cohort reflects both their resilience and their determination to succeed. As the HSC draws nearer, these structured opportunities for practice and reflection are helping students approach the examinations with confidence and a clear sense of purpose.
