Happy end of Term 1! We hope everyone has a productive break and we encourage year 10-12 to continue their studies throughout the two-week holiday.

It has been a very busy term with all Social Science students successfully completing their first assessment task for the year.

Things to look out for next term:

  • Yr 12 Geography excursion
  • Mock Trial round 2
  • Australian Geography Competition
  • Mock United Nations

Year 12 Geography excursion

On February 23, Year 12 Geography went to Sydney Olympic Park to observe and conduct fieldwork in the Mangrove Ecosystems (Badue Mangroves). We saw a range of fauna, such as mud crabs, brim, swans, and swamp hens. Students also gathered data on soil pH, air temperature, noise levels (dBc), and survey counts on flora and fauna present. The fieldwork conducted is assisting students in completing their Senior Geography Project, as part of their HSC. Luckily, the weather held off and it was the perfect day to attend the site. Students are looking forward to their next excursion, a trip to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains.

Mock Trial

On March 26th, I had the privilege of participating alongside our Epping Boys High School team as First Barrister in a civil case mock trial against Loreto Kirribilli, representing the Plaintiff in what was a thrilling and stressful experience. Alongside me, Advay G delivered a standout closing statement, Xavier H served as our Solicitor, Seif M kept proceedings in order as Magistrates Clerk, and Agastya Sand Liam D brought our witnesses Barry Fox and Annabelle Fox to life on the stand. While the verdict didn't go our way, the team showed incredible composure, preparation, and heart throughout, and I couldn't be prouder of what we accomplished together.

Year 8 Gibberagong Excursion

On Friday 27 March Year 8 attended an excursion at Bobbin Head and West Head. Students observed the various landforms in the Ku-ring-gai national park. Our students Geography skills were re-enforced by conducting a range of measurements including aspect, wind speed, air temperature, soil temperature and pH levels. There was also time to enjoy a bushwalk through the beautiful scenery of the National Park. We are looking forward to students bringing these new experiences back into the classroom.
