Level 2

2YS Yasi Shayesteh, 2KH Kim Holmes, 2ES Elizabeth Seymour

We have had a wonderful Term 1. Level 2 has worked hard, shown the school values, and made some new friends.

Literacy

Students have continued to work hard in phonics. This week, I am revising common words and the 'eigh' in words such as eight, eighty, and eighteen. They continue to work on making interesting sentences and have begun learning about the writing traits, such as how to make our writing sound like us. In reading, students have been learning about making connections with the books they read. Can they make a connection with the text they are reading? Can they connect a text with another text and find similarities, and can they connect what they know about the world with a text? This is called text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections.

Maths

We have begun learning about data, and students have enjoyed creating their own surveys and surveying their class using tally marks to collect the information. They have been learning about how to interpret column graphs and read information in different ways.

Friendology

Students learnt four strategies for making new friends, including how to show kind & friendly body language. They also have been learning these things in Friendology lessons:

  • I can practice using my body language
  • I can reflect on how it feels to make new friends
  • I can practice having a conversation through a game of catch with a goal of finding something in common
  • I can practice and role-play how to introduce myself
  • I can craft a question to use when I meet a new friend
  • I can reflect on the behaviors people feel naturally drawn to
  • I can analyse common friendship situations
  • I can learn to grow lots of types of friendships at school
  • I can apply my friend-making skills

If you would like some more information regarding Friendology, please take a look at their parent resources.
