Level 6

We can’t believe we are almost one quarter of the way through our final year of primary school! We have already achieved so much and have taken on our responsibilities with maturity and enthusiasm, making the term fly by. Meeting our Foundation buddies and spending time building those relationships has definitely been a highlight for all of us.

Reading

In Reading, we have been practising a range of comprehension strategies using our novels and various non-fiction texts linked to our Events and Change in Modern Australia Inquiry unit. We have been making a variety of connections, text to self, text to text and text to world, and are increasingly moving beyond simple or surface level links to explain our thinking in greater depth. We are beginning to make more meaningful connections to ideas, issues and themes, showing a stronger and more thoughtful understanding of the texts we read.

Writing

In Writing, we have worked through the writing process to complete narrative pieces and have now begun focusing on information reports. As part of this, we have been developing our note taking skills and learning how to locate reliable and appropriate sources for research. This has been a challenging process at times, however we are showing persistence, improving our skills and supporting one another along the way.

Maths

In Mathematics, we recently completed our unit on formal multiplication with decimal numbers and have now moved on to solving formal division problems involving fractional and decimal remainders. We are continuing to build our confidence in applying efficient strategies and are working towards greater accuracy when solving increasingly complex problems.
