A reminder that Three-Way Conferences are occurring tonight until 7:00 PM. Some conferences will also take place next week from 2:00–3:30 PM. We hope you enjoy the conversations you have with your child and their teacher.

On Monday, HEPS had an amazing day celebrating Harmony Day. Students wore orange or their traditional dress, participated in activities from different cultures including food, arts and crafts and enjoyed an assembly featuring a special Indigenous performance, along with some of our students proudly sharing their language and culture.
This is Malakiye from 6GE;

The above picture was drawn by Malakiye; during time in his Koorie education session with Mrs Anderson he described the picture like this;
My tribe name is Gurni-Kurni and we are the traditional custodians of the Gippsland region of south eastern Australia. My drawing meaning is a meeting place with waterholes and a creek for men and woman. The stars are in the sky. The woman have gone off to hunt for bush tucker of ants, witchetty grubs and edible plants. This is also a meeting place for animals with emu and kangaroo tracks. This meeting place brings everyone together, just like HEPS.

A big thank you to all the parents and families who attended the working bee on Sunday. It was another fantastic turnout. Together, we achieved an incredible amount of work, including moving a large pile of mulch into the Foundation–3 playground and around the veggie garden planter boxes. We also planted new shrubs along Louis Street, applied decking oil to the gaga pit and Level 2 deck area, and spent valuable time maintaining and improving the veggie garden. Your support and effort are greatly appreciated and make a real difference to our school environment.

Our Cyber Safety Evening on Wednesday, 18th March was a great success. Families learned how to navigate their child’s online world safely, promote digital wellbeing, set up devices securely, and foster responsible tech use. All while starting important conversations about safe and balanced online habits.

We were fortunate to have local police officer Peter Williams visit our school to speak with students about cyber safety and staying safe online. He shared practical advice on how to navigate digital spaces responsibly, recognise potential risks, and make safe choices when using technology. Students were highly engaged and gained valuable insights into protecting their personal information, interacting respectfully online, and knowing what to do if something doesn’t feel right.
Thursday 2nd April from 9.00-9.45 AM

A reminder that the MAD DAY parade is on Thursday 2nd April from 9.00-9.45 AM. MAD DAY stands for Make A Difference. Students are asked to bring a gold coin for the JSC charity and dress madly. Bright coloured clothes, socks and mad hair. Teamkids will be providing a free light breakfast for families from 8.30-10.00 PM.

Our staff continue to place a strong emphasis on their own learning and professional growth. Each week, staff meet on Monday and Thursday afternoons to participate in structured professional learning. This work is guided by our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and takes place through our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Curriculum Teams.
Collaboration is a key part of this process. Staff regularly engage in peer observations, providing opportunities to learn from one another, share practice, and reflect on effective teaching strategies. One of our curriculum days this year will be dedicated to writing, and we have engaged an external consultant to support our staff as we continue to strengthen the way writing is taught at HEPS.
Throughout the year, a number of staff will also participate in external professional learning. At HEPS, we value continuous improvement and recognise that investing in our teachers has a direct and positive impact on student learning. At times, this may mean your child’s teacher is replaced by a Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) or that classes are combined while staff participate in professional learning during the school day.

Wishing all the HEPS families a happy Easter break. I hope everyone is able to take time to recharge and refresh with family and friends. We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and peaceful Easter and holiday break.
